Hey /k/ i'm a battlefield archeologist but more of a /pol/ guy but i could need some help from you guys identifying ammo, weaponry and other items we have found the past 2 weeks
Finding weapons and ammo is not unusual in my job. Pretty much every MIA/KIA soldier we find is either around weapons and ammo or has some on him.
The location of these finds are on the western front where german WSS and US soldiers fought eachother in 1944.
I assume a lot of the ammo and weapons that are new to me are neither american nor german but were picked up by soldiers sometime during the war
>pic related is weapon #1
>>
Looks like an anti tank rifle maybe russian?

FAMAS F1
>>

Its probably german actually, i didnt see western front. I just googled german anti tank rifle.

PTRD-1941. 14.5mm, soviet.

Where did you find it?
>>
>>35085920
PTRD-41
>>

it's an artillery shell that didn't explode

You fucks shouldnt even be posting here. You are even too fucking dumb to google "WW2 anti tank rifle"

Summer is over, get the fuck outta here.
>>
>>35085935

I lied again op, sorry. it's a ptr41
>>35085938

That's a Pz.b 39 anti tank rifle.
>>
>>35085920
Why don't you try looking up the weapons used by the US and German forces for a start? Also if you have any information about what unit said soldier or soldiers were in you could try looking up what weapons were issued to that unit. WW2 isn't such an old war that there would be no records of who fought where and with what, so identifying these weapons should be even easier than identifying ancient weapons.

Are these american?

>>35085931
I'm only educated on german anti-tank rifles, the Panzerbüchse 38 and 39 but this one (though in a bad condition) has many differences.
If it helps, this was found in the Alsace region of France
>>
>>35085933
Looks like a .45ACP. Allied forces used them extensively in WW2

nope, its the russian PTRD

Thanks! This looks like this is the one!
This was found in the battlefields where the 17th SS division GvB fought against the 5th US army in autumn 1944, south of the city of Metz

british 303 ammo?

other anons verify?
>>
>>35085963
I mistook the rear sight for a rusted away Pz.b carry handle. Correction, it's a backwards PTRD-41 because OP is a retard and mirrored the image. That or it's the only left handed model.

You are correct, no it'S not left-handed, the picture flipped apparently. So any picture you see where a gun has the reloader and other obvious signs on the wrong side, you know it's flipped. Seems to be done automatically because i only reduce the size before uploading

Thanks you both this looks promising, was it known that american soldiers also used british weaponry? Because as far as i know the brits were not in that area but further south

Are you certain there weren't also earlier engagements in the area during the Battle of France? I mean it's also possible that the Germans were using a piece of equipment captured from UK/Candian forces, particularly if they were SS since they scavenged fucking everything.

That's true. The Waffen SS got the order to not only use guns and ammo from the enemy forces but also vehicles. I'm in contact with some of the Waffen SS veterans of the 17th but both of these survivors said in that area they never saw anyone of their battalion using allied weaponry, they could be wrong though because it's been 70+ years.
Their memory concerning where comrades died is perfect though as we managed to verify

It's also just possible they never saw it, I suppose. There are any number of possibilites.

Both interesting and somewhat sad.

How did you get this job by the way?
>>
>>35085965
Hey, >>35085965 here

You say Metz? Wow thats pretty fucking awesome. Because its clear evidence that the GvB was equipped with soviet capture equipment - OUTSIDE the eastern front.

Thats pretty fucking awesome.

Anyone got a clue what this is? improvised grenades tucked together?
>>
>>35086061
There was a german weapon that was the heads of a bunch of grenades stuck together for use. Not strictly speaking improvised since iirc they were designed to have that capability.
>>
>>35086061
It looks like an M24 anti tank bundle with the wooden handle rotted away?
>>
>>35086061
It's a geballte ladung, basically 6 or so grenadeheads tucked together for bigger boom
They had the shrapnel sleeve taken off though

Through my own grandfather who was in the 1st SS LAH and donated a lot of money to the german war cemetary commission.
Of course my experience in the german army with explosives helped me to get that job as well and of course former comrades of my grandfather who were actively engaged in recovering lost comrades.
I work together with
>https://www.volksbund.de/en/presse/volksbund.html

>>35086054
Considering that the most of the GvB who fought against the 5th US army were 17-19 year olds i'm not surprised that soviet weaponry was given to them while probably giving the german weapons to more experienced forces

Here are two kids (born 1925 and 1927) we recovered last week, contacting their relatives tomorrow

Dunno if IDing equipment other than munitions and weapons is wanted, but closest I can figure for that field phone hand set is a FF33 of some variation. Everything matches but that mouthpiece. Weird it was found along with a bunch of vickers ammo.

Kek. I like relic hunter videos too, OP. Not something we can really do in the US. I assume that's your reason for LARPing?

Does seem like a toxic community, though. Between all the counterfeiters and people staging finds for YouTube clickbait, no need to inject even more lies.
