What does /K/ think of the trend of modifying M1A's? If you own/owned an M1A would you modify it into an EBR/EMR or put in in the Juggernaut Chassis?

>>
EBR chassis because I've loved it since I saw it. It does weigh a fuck ton towards the front, or at least modern M39 do
>>
>>35085419
The only appeal the M14 has is the old/classic style of stock like a bolt gun.
If you want a more modern BR than get an AR10/SCAR17/FAL/G3
>>35085422
The juggernaut is pretty cool and one of the very few options for a bullpup .308 other than the RFB

You're not cementing your case well by listing the 3 branches that greatly exceed at being gayer than the Army.

Cause they already had them and it was cheaper to update than invest in newer/better platform.
The M14 is a dated design. It works fine. But doesn't compete with anything modern.

Lol so what branch of the armed forces isn't gay by your standards? the Coast Guard?
>>
>>35085518
You just have to take a note from the Vietnam armorers and learn their ways. Take a fuck ton of LSD and grab a wrench.
In actuality google some of their texts, acurizing the M14 platform is damn near witchcraft.

Just finished building one, still waiting on new optic to show up. It's an awesome set up.

>>35085469
Can confirm, is heavy as fuck. I would not want to be the poor bastard that had to haul it around.

>>35085518
Mine's more accurate than that. I borrowed my buddies NXS 2.5-10, it shot a little less than 1 MOA with decent ammo after coming back from the gunsmith. Moving to a free floating barrel with this setup makes them decently accurate.

Not going to lie, the second I saw one on an M39 chassis as a kid I thought it was beautiful. I still wouldn't get one unless it was cheaper surplus due to the m14's flaws but I love it. I hope emporer Trump finds a way to let us have the semi autos when they go
>>
>>35085518
This. I had a non shitty M14 made by Smith Enterprise with National Match "accurized" parts. Fucking thing would barely hold 1moa and they told me not to clean it by removing it from the stock or the accuracy would degrade. Thought about an EBR stock but that would have made it a 5k gun and I'd rather have an MRAD at that price.

Shit reliability, heavy, and ridiculously expensive too. Sold that thing for $3.5k and bought more ammo for my AR-15 senpai.

Hows the jam frequency on these? And what accuracy you guys getting? Been considering a new synthetic scout and mounting a 3-9 on it.

Thoughts?
>>
>>35085419
Someone is offering to trade my Desert Eagle XIX in .44 and Howa 1500 mini action in 6.5 Creedmore for an M1A SOCOM 16 in a Juggernaut Chassis. I'm tempted, the gun looks like a brick but holy hell if it isn't unique. Unfortunately he sold the original synthetic stock to his gunsmith.

Pic related.
>>
>>35086723
It took me like a year to sell my M14. Make sure you want it.
>>
>>35086747
The dude hasn't sold this M1A in a couple years from what I can tell with Armslist listings.
>>
>>35086661
>Hows the jam frequency on these?
I've got an 18.5" Scout Squad M1A in the Sage EBR kit. After my 100 round break in I've had no jams or FTE's in the last 1k rounds running 168gr FMJs.

>And what accuracy you guys getting?
I'm getting a bit under 1 MOA pretty regularly (the free floating barrel in the EBR kit helps alot), the gun's probably capable of better, I'm not an expert marksman by any means.

>Been considering a new synthetic scout and mounting a 3-9 on it.
Not a bad idea if your thinking about hoofing it around, putting an M1A in the EBR kit makes it heavy. I'm cool with mine being heavy as shit because all I'm doing with it is shooting out to 300yd at the range. I will warn you that mounting an optic on an unmodified M1a with it's stock rail can be a pain, they tend to expand a bit when they get hot and throw of your zero.
>>
>>35086752
Not surprised. Even putting memes aside, 7.62 battle rifles really aren't desirable guns to most people and M14/M1As are the worst of the Cold War bunch.
>>
>>35086772
Thanks. Yeah do plan on having it at least capable of being carried around. May end up going with a scout optic or stick with irons then as I havent seen an aftermarket stock that isnt garbage or overweight thatll allow better scope mounting.
>>
Tagged for interest. Been looking at an 18" M1A for babbys first battle rifle.
Long term goal would be putting it in an EBR/Troy/Blackfeather chassis.
>>
its a fun gun to shoot. just expect it to behave like a 1960's battle rifle and you'll be fine. Mine is an old SA and it has lots of USGI surplus on it from the factory, but the newer ones aren't as great.

get a m305 and just shoot it.
