I wanna go hunting on my free time (because I ain't got jack shit else to do in Lubbock Texas)
What are some good cheap hunting guns?
>>35083018
mosin $300 + spam can of 440 for $100
>>35083026
not a bad combo
only hate it's corrosive ammo so use windex after shooting
but not a big problem for the price
h&R (or NEF) single shot 12 gauge (can be picked up at any pawnshop for 80 dollars)
Go watch wildernessoutfitters (Dave Canterbury) modern longhunter series (and common man's combo firearms) on YouTube.

Unironically recommending a mosin for 300 Instead of a savage for 199 new in box in literally in caliber like 5.56 or 308.
This isn't 1997 anymore. Fuck mosins.
There was a good deal on the Marlin 1894 in 44mag a while ago where you could get it with a $75 MIR; so under $400 after everything. It's still a hell of a good deal.
Other options would be a savage 10 or a Ruger American Predator.

OP here
I love old soviet guns, and WW2 guns
Mosin is a great Nazi killer for hunting
>>35083619
Yeah I was helping you in the thread yesterday. You didn't take any of my advice and your not taking it now. If you buy a mosin, your a retard.
>>35083619
listen to this >>35083834 guy dude. If you're not an experienced shooter, starting with a Mosin is going to fuck your shit up. Mosins kick like a motherfucker and you're not gonna hit jack shit.
>>35083018
Is the TT shooting club still running?
>>35083087
>windex
just use water.
>>35083018

>>35083026
>Mosin $300

Just reading this makes me feel like I've awoken in an alternate universe.

The "muh cheep nugget" meme is expired and needs to die now. The days when buying milsurp just to get a cheap shooter was a good idea are gone and not coming back. As another anon said, buying a milsurp rifle for what you'll pay for them now is just plain dumb when new-build rifles are out there for comparable prices. Not only that, but cheap surplus ammo is drying up fast, which means that prices are only going to rise on milsurp caliber ammo. There's no point in buying a rifle you won't be able to afford to shoot - it's total cost of ownership that's important, not initial purchase price. The bottom line is: buy milsurp if you're a collector, but not just for a hunting gun.
Anyhow, OP, I have my eye on one of these: http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/Stevens301 - MSRP is $172, but street price seems to be about $150. 12 gauge is cheap and readily available, or if recoil bugs you, there are 20 gauge or 410 bore options, and that ammo isn't too expensive, either. Plus, it's a budget gun that you won't mind banging up on hunting trips or making newbie mistakes with. I'd consider that way before a milsurp rifle.

I'm gonna say it.
C308 sporter
There I said it.
Dig some holes.

>>35083619
Old shot out milsurp garbage with minute-of-barn accuracy.
Savage, Ruger, or Remington offer great rifles at low prices in extremely common calibres. Aftermarket support is huge for those makes as well.
I wish /k/ would stop with the stupid "MOSINS R THUH BEST" mentality, but that would involve growing up and maturing.
>>35084207
This
get one with the rail welded on
Moistens have always been shit, get a Savage BA or a 30-30
Marlin 336.
>>35084243
I don't think they're the best, but they are good for the money
>>35084243
no one said they were the best
people are just saying theyre good for how cheap they are, so calm down buddy
>>35083018
Hey I'm at ttu as well. What hall
>>35084608
But they're not cheap anymore. Their great rifles for $100 but definitely not a $300 rifle. Not to mention the price of ammo. Better off with a savage in .223 or .308

Ive been looking at those. Whats a decent deal on one? Also, compact or standard length?
>>35084087
>mfw i bought one when they were $150
>>35084243
>minute-of-barn accuracy

Go to any gunstore and check out what they have used. Like this anon said savage and a few others make very inexpensive weapons.
Also u should see how the weapon feels. You will find somw weapons simply may not match up to your hands.
Really its a tool and being comfy with it is key. Maintenance and cleaning never blew a gun up either
>>35084243
But they are, or were, when you could get them for $100 with a good bore.
>Mosins are good for being cheap 100$ rifles
>Its 2017 they're 300$+
>Somehow still good for being cheap
>>35083834
>>35083875
Molson will be inaccurate and shitty compared to a lot of other things you can buy in the same range. I'm with them.
>>35085786
>Ive been looking at those. Whats a decent deal on one? Also, compact or standard length?
As with basically all Ruger products, it's a great value for the price. There are YouTube videos of the 6.5 Creedmoor version making one-mile shots onto steel plates. I got the .308, and with any semi-decent optic it should be more than enough for any hunting you plan to do.
>>35084608
Good for throwing away money. People selling mosins typically look for suckers with a wade of cash burning a hole in their pocket.
Most of those suckers happen to congregate to /k/.
>>35087143
>$100 dollar "okay-ish" rifle
>Ammo price going up every year
Might as well pour cement down the barrel and hang it on the wall. It was a poor investment.
>>35083919
There were three of them at the Cabela's in KC the other day. If I didn't already have one, I probably would've bought all three. I need more Mausers in my life.
The ruger American ranch riflr now comes in 7.62x39 with a threaded 16 inch barrel. I wamt one pretty bad desu.
