So yesterday I went and did a zeroing of my rifle.
went with a 25m/300m zero using a trijicon accupoint 1-4x. I zeroed it at 25m, and then brought it out to 100, but shot a good foot above the target.
The accupoint is mounted on a larue SPR1.5, and i'm shooting from a 14.5" barrel using 55gr wolf gold.
No idea as to how i'm fucking this up.

I have experience with zeroing an acog TA31, and with that i should hold a few inches below center at 100 with a 25 yard zero since the bullet is still arcing upwards.

It's going to suck no matter what because you live in NY. If you want any features it has to be single shot, or you'd have to do one of those retarded built in mags that you separate the upper to reload. Even then, you're limited to 10 round mags. No matter what, you'll be missing key features that make the platform great, and you'll regret it. A castrated AR is shit. I used to live in NY and built one, took it to the range twice, regretted spending all that time on it, and sold it. Just buy something you can enjoy for what it is, like a fixed mag VZ 58 from Czechpoint that's easy to load with stripper clips. Or save up and move to a state where you can enjoy your hobby, that's what I did.

Again, having been there and as you acknowledged, it sucks. You will likely regret investing time and money into a gimped platform. But if that's what you want go for it. As far as parts go, there are hundreds of manufacturers across a wide spectrum of price and quality in the AR market, so it really comes down to personal preference. You're better off doing the research to find what you want than asking such a general question.

this is not going to be a concern unless your parts were out of spec budget trash to begin with. In that case your BCG would be the first thing to go, within the first couple thousand rounds.

only thing I can think of deserving of ridicule is the way in which I mounted the pressure pad to my handguard. so, I bought a streamlight "rail mount" light and have it at the 3 o'clock position and tried to use the double sided 3m tape to attach the pressure pad to the 10 o'clock position, problem is it seemed the double sided tape seemed to be not sticky enough (well, I dropped it on the dusty floor and it picked up a bunch of debris :/) so then I decided to get a section of rail to mount the pressure pad on via the rubber end tabs included in the package. is that a stupid thing to do?

>>35084400
>mid runs less stress on components due to less gas feeding back to cycle the action.
Doesn't this also have the potential to reduce reliability with lower powered ammunition unless the gas port is oversized to compensate?
>this is not going to be a concern unless your parts were out of spec budget trash to begin with. In that case your BCG would be the first thing to go, within the first couple thousand rounds.
My interest was more the result of wanting some concrete data on how much longer parts in a midlength will last versus parts in a carbine that are otherwise of the same configuration and made by the same manufacturer.

>Doesn't this also have the potential to reduce reliability with lower powered ammunition unless the gas port is oversized to compensate?
yeah maybe 7 years ago. the kinks have been worked out with the gas port diameters most manufacturers settling around .076 (BCM's measure). Unless of course you bought the 79.99 midlength 18'' barrel not classed as "mil spec" and a profile you don't quite recognize.
Carbine gas systems are just outclassed all round on a 16'' model, where dwell distance > 7.5''.
>how much longer parts in a midlength will last versus parts in a carbine that are otherwise of the same configuration and made by the same manufacturer.
If we compare a PSA 16'' carbine gas upper with a 16'' middy upper and hold all other components constant the carbine will have potentially higher rates of failure. It's not likely going to fail, mind you, it's just your receiver is getting scraped more, your buffer is getting whacked harder, the spring is being compressed more tightly, and the locking lugs of your BCG are getting slammed home harder, My money is STILL on bolt head failing first or extractor if anything. You wont shoot out the barrel faster due to your gas system

+P is a specific pressure measurement. The Shield is rated to handle +P and says as much in the owners manual.
>>35084709
I believe they actually had a good labor day deal going on the CHF version of a 16'' mid. Yes. The barrels will be made by FN, thus you can count on the gas port being properly sized, QC and all. I do not own a PSA BCG but people here have had good results from the premium edition.

>legos actually make pretty great napalm
>>35084680

>>35084814

>>35084680
It's not always extra powder. Sometimes its faster powder to boost chamber pressure quicker before the barrel burn starts
>>35084771
Or. Or or or. Or.
I keep the shield as my skinny back up reserve pistol. I keep carrying the storm as my conceal pistol. I keep my AR, and I give the Glock 19 as a gift for Christmas and I don't lose my ass on the sale of 4 separate firearms and I keep my money for more practice polyformance ammo.
This is also an option.
