As mentioned earlier if you want an actual M79 there's a few different routes, it's legally a destructive device so it'll require transfer on a form 4 to you as either an individual or transferred to a trust you're a trustee of. There was one recently on gunbroker for sale, it was a TRW with a rewelded receiver and the guy only wanted $8200 which is a pretty damn good price. Alternate route but still an NFA item would be to track down the parts individually and assemble it. The parts are out there and come up for sale from time to time but it'll still be in the multi-thousands of dollars range.

However; there is my method. As part of my senior design engineering class I made a model of a M79 and was talking with one of my buds in the class who showed me the airshit metal and wood M79. Got me to thinking it'd be a good way to have an M79 for cheap but airshit isn't my thing so I'm working on rebuilding one as a 37mm "flare" launcher. With that set up I'd be able to launch flares, smoke, and what is about equivalent to firework mortar shells. So far I was able to track down the components for the fire control group I need, next step is to cast the rough receiver using a lost wax cast relying on a 3D print of what an actual M79 receiver would be internally but sized on the exterior to match the airshit. I'm also currently waiting on a large chunk of 7075 aluminum that set me back a pretty penny that will be the new 37mm barrel. In the end it'll be a 37mm M79 that looks and feels the part but cost a fraction of the real deal and doesn't require any paperwork.

Yes, EBay and gunbroker are the best sources. Check Subguns and Sturmgewehr for the receiver and barrel if you want the real deal. Receivers and barrels are the hardest and most expensive part to come by.
