I must be a weirdo for preferring the "slim" stock and pokey stick over the "potbelly" stock and blade bayonet.

I don't get the fascination with the Chinese SKS, they are literally a waste of steel. The quality between them isn't even close, every time someone brings me an SKS with some fucked up weird ass problem, it's ALWAYS Chinese.

They rust faster, malfunction more often, and have a third of the fit and finish quality of a standard Russian. We had a shipment of Chinese military rifles and literally none of the butt plates fit the stock, there was a good half inch of overhang on the bottom of the stock, that snagged on everything.

That can't be right. I have a military SKS (Chinese characters and arsenal mark), yet it has cast sight base and cast front sight but also has smooth machining on the barrel (but not the gas tube) and smooth wood. It's also 100% matching.

Can anyone comment as to the effective range of a sks? Obviously they are not going to be sub MOA accurate but they should be within 2-3 MOA out 100-200 yards right? Just wondering if getting one and a cheapie 3-12 power scope is worth it for busting up old gallon jugs of water and such at 80-300 yards for shenanigans.
