Ok /k/, I live in the PNW. We've been smoked out due to the fires that have burning in the region for the last couple months. For the past week, the air quality has been so bad its been hard to breathe, especially for someone with asthma. Unfortunately, I have to work outside with no ways out of it (not that I want to). So, I was wondering, what's the best gas mask for being out in smoke all day, preferabally surplus that's reasonablly cheap, but I can buy new.
>>
>>35081391
Whatever takes 40mm filters and still has working seals. israeli civil defense , drager m65 are both good, just use relatively new filters

Just get some 3M particulate masks.
>>
>>35081572
>this
Cheaper, easier to get and easier to replace. You could even go with a half face respirator, but cartridge price will add up over time. And, yes, the cartridge will eventually need to be replaced.
>>
>>35081391
My top two entry level gas masks, coming from someone who also has asthma and lives near lots of wildfires.

Czech M10m masks are like ten or fifteen bucks and filters are cheap and easy to get. The only filters available are for tear gas but it'll do for smoke. As a plus they're really comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Russian GP-5s can be even cheaper, and can fit a wide variety of filters from shitty surplus, to good surplus, to brand new industrial CBRN filters. HOWEVER-They're kind of uncomfortable and I don't really like wearing them for long periods of time.

If you're going to go this route, I would recommend ones with the rubber seal and the exhale valve, they are leagues more effective than the standard dust masks.
>>
>>35081391
>preferabally surplus
wrong. go to home depot and get a particle respirator with activated charcoal filters. its not as fun as LARPing with your milsurp, but you will be safer
>>
>>35081497
Gp5?
How do I measure my head
>>
>>35081783
>>35081572
I knew these existed, I just wanted something to keep my eyes from burning like crazy as well.
>>
>>35081391
>gas mask
>for smoke
Not to be condescending but you don't have any idea what gas masks are supposed to be used for and these idiots giving advice don't know either.
Gas masks are for the following, aerosols (ie. teargas) chemical gas (mustard, chlorine) biological gas (nerve gas, vx) And Nuclear particles like fallout with alpha and beta particles.
What gas masks are not for is smoke. Smoke is pretty damn thick and when there's a lot of it, it's going to be absorbed by the activated carbon in like half an hour. Not to mention gas masks don't replace the oxygen that you're supposed to breath. It justs takes everything else out of the air.
So unless you want to do it incorrectly and pay hundreds of dollars worth of filters, pay hundreds of dollars on an SCBA mask and system. That is what you're looking for. firefighters use them and it replaces the oxygen that you're missing in addition to not dealing with the outside air at all.
Just evacuate for a month and then come back.
It sounds like you're going to spend a lot more trying to stay there than you would just staying at a hotel for a few days.
>>
>>35081941
dirt bike goggles. i carry a pair for sand storms which we get from time to time, they work pretty good and best of all if you wear glasses they will fit underneath most. also you get a choice of clear or tinted lenses
>>
>>35082141
He's not going into a burning house you retard, he's using them to clean contaminated air and protect his lungs, nose, and eyes, exactly what they were designed for.

Currently wearing one of the 2 valve ones. It's not exactly comfortable but neither was my fucking asthma with this goddamn smoke.
>>

Definitely do it. It's worth it. I took it off for a few minutes because my face was warm and my ears were sore from the straps. Big mistake.
>>
>>35081391
I literally just bought a Soviet civilian distributed mask for $10 and replaced the filter. It's pretty fucking solid

Haha no thought you were my cousin richard
>>
>>35081572
>>35081767
Are there any of these disposable paper ones that are rated for vapors, at least as long as they last? Or do I have to go for a full fledged respirator?
>>
>>35083523
We're getting ash down here near Aloha, OR.
Not much ash, but it's there, also some smoke.
>>35083523
>>35083580
Be safe my friends.
>>
>>35083463
Eagle Creek, just above Multnomah Falls. Spread as far as Troutdale. The fucking kids that did this are in custody. I hope they hang.
>>
Man it was SO crazy today !

The sun looked red all day and my car is covered in ash

I just wore a bandana seemed to work. I do have p100 filters though from house work - the mask is like $60 at Home Depot

>>
>>35082841
Is this bait?
>>
Can anyone recommend a respirator for aerosols like those from paint as well as smoke? Should I get half or full-face masks? I'm looking at 3M respirators for this since I want a functional product after this forest fire stuff blows over.
>>
>>35083945
Just breath it in with the rest of us. You will want to die sooner than later living in this fucking shitty liberal place.
>>
>>35083967
I'm in Leafland. BC has its share of forest fires too.

>>35083967
Sorry you hate a booming economy, fairly good state gun laws, delicious food, and good hunting grounds.

On the topic of gas masks, what are some good glasses and beard friendly nuclear bio-chemical masks that aren't full glass?
Full glass tends to fog on me rather consistently.

I mean, it's not GOOD for you or whatever.

But it's also not filled with chemical additives or other bullshit that causes the kind of health problems coal plants and cigarettes do.

It's literally wood smoke.
>>
>>35089482
Its just for me (an asthma sufferer) being out in the smoke for even short periods of time gets me all kinds of messed up. In my line of work, I have to be outside too to make sure the animals are okay as well. This stuff is hard on them as well.

As a reminder with smoke, respirators and gas masks may filter out particulates but if the environment is a low oxygen environment like a closed area a fire, a gas mask may not be enough and a tank or scba may be needed, stay safe and informed depending on the work
>>
>>35082927
Half of these patterns will make it look like you're wearing a pair of panties on your face.
>>
Take a bandana or neck scarff thing and just put some water on it. This is what I do if I have to start a burn outside. I also have a 3m respirator but I also would like to buy a military style one.
>>
>>35084951
Live in denial all you wish, you may live 5 miles away from it, but it will be there. You will move because of it, and it will be where formerly was your home, virtue signalling all the way where once was your childhood full of smiling blond children, then there will be obese brown goblins speaking in many foreign tongues.
