Replacing the AR-15, or at the very least getting new furniture, getting all new 10/22 everything except the reciever since mine was killed in Harvey but everything else is fine.

Hoping to get some moni from the Sako, 455, and Grendel and buy something like a Bergara B-14 HMR or Tikka T3x CTR once insurance money returns. I want to give someone I know the Yildiz since he's noguns and I feel bad for his shitty situation.

Sure did. I inherited most of these from my grandpa and great uncle. My great uncle actually had the capture papers for the Arisaka and bayonet. As you can probably tell, they were pretty big into bird hunting. I'm the only one of my generation interested in guns and that hunts so they all make their way to me. Except one, the Remington Woodsmaster 740 30-06 my uncle kept and gave to his friend.

If your still around OK.

Size: the Beretta is a just plain bulkier gun for a double stack nine, the hi power is noticeably thinner and the trigger reach is much shorter on the older gun.

Trigger:the hi power has a better single action trigger then the Beretta. no contest, after you remove the mag safety it becomes even slicker, the single action on the Beretta if fine but very unrefined ,it takes a whole lot of practice to get consistent double action shots though.
.
Fit and Finish:this is where you are not getting more for your money the Beretta and hi power both have quality finishes and the actions are smooth.i have no complaints about either.

Reliability:this is where i can not lie, my hi power has not been reliable at all. I have had consistent double feeds with quality ammunition and numerous mags, this is not a huge deal for me because the hi power does not serve as one of my combat handguns but it very much sours the shooting experience. I have yet to decide if i will let browning handle this issue or let Cylinder and Slide work it out when i send it in for work.its a project for the back burner

Cost:huge disparity, the hi power is about twice the cost of the Beretta .Is there more pride of ownership with the browning? absolutely, but the Beretta gets the job done.

Accessories: the Beretta wins, but both holsters, sights, mags are readily available for both.

In closing both are iconic pistols, with the browning being a much more elegant and refined piece while the Beretta is a bit bloated and dated, but has proven itself reliable and comfortable.if you would like me to expand on anything or you have more specific questions i am more than happy to answer

I included my old Daisy BB gun from when I was a kid since I recently rediscovered it, it seems broken though. I've got a S&W 642 on the way. Any thoughts on how to build a "good" collection, other than just buying stuff I like, which has been my approach so far mostly?
>>
>>35084930
Priorities for a gun collection imo (from most to least)
>Concealed carry pistol
>Liberty Rifle
>Liberty Pistol/HD Pistol
>Something in a full size caliber incase of bears/monsters
Once you have quality versions of those you can move onto buying whatever makes you happy.
>>
>>35084930
>Any thoughts on how to build a "good" collection, other than just buying stuff I like

Number 1 rule of collecting anything: Collect what you like. That's it. Don't fall for memes.

Personally speaking, looking at your pic I'd be thinking about a DA revolver, a powerful scoped rifle, something milsurp (and not sporterized,) and maybe a shorter barreled pump shotgun. But it's your collection man.

I need some ideas for a mag fed 5.56, that's the next hole in my collection to fill.

AR's are kind of boring to me and I don't mind saving up for a good long while. The only 5.56 rifle that I have a hard boner for is the FS2000, but it does really bother me that it doesn't have a BHO. I love the SCAR platform, but the 16 doesn't excite me for whatever reason, and I've already for a semi auto .308. Any suggestions?
>>
>>35086759

You're a strange man.
>>
>>35086759
from all i've found out about them, KETEC SU-16s are actually supposed to be really good, if you're looking for a weird/meme 5.56. Uses AR mags. Looking at $600. Beretta ARX seems cool, good ambi features and whatnot, some downsides (not as modular as ARs, obvs), but if you're looking for something different - theyre like $1000. AUGs are generally well regarded but they'll run about $1200-1600. Again these are if you absolutely don't want to go the AR route. Also there are Tavor/X95. Start reading and watching reviews on some of these guns, see if one tickles your pickle. I'd like to save for an AUG personally, but after $600, i gave up and fell for the WASR meme.

Yes, he's an autist but has some good info in there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoBOcJkxnrY
>>
>>35087006
Thanks friendo! I've certainly got some research to do, but those seem to be some good directions to start. Never really thought about the AUG for whatever reason.

I like your Remington 11. You should keep it and cut it down to riot length, since it already has that nasty polychoke or whatever it is on it.

That Ithaca looks really nice too. Is that the factory barrel length or did that one get the chop already?
If I were you I'd keep the Ruger if I was gonna get rid of a .223, but that's just me.

Also, you definitely need a .30-30. I traded my Mossberg 500 for pic related, a Marlin 36AW, and I absolutely love it. Great gun to shoot, only downside is that ammo is a little pricey.

>Uhoh.jpg

yeah it's going to be a learning experience for you... Don't be surprised if you fuck up the mold. esp if you don't have release agent.

Pro tip, for a part like that you will need to cut a slice or two into the rubber to allow the mold to separate in order to get the part out cleanly.

This will also help with casting too as when you pour you can get the resin into all the little areas where it may get have trouble getting in and leave an air bubble.

When you pour pour a small amount in with halves open, use your (gloved) finger to get the liquid in, then quickly seal it up, w/ rubber bands holding it together and fill to the top...

You will also need a pouring basing or a sprue, as you need this extra bit of material or else you will always have short castings and your castings will never be filled enough, with the extra material it gives you material to sand away that leaves for a perfect in spec copy to the original.

Not going to lie though... not having a pressure system will leave for air bubbles in not only the rubber mold but also the castings

Good luck!
>>
>>35089355
As for the basin, a 1/4 square of wood, or plexiglass should be suffice, or use paint mixing sticks, either should work. Super glue the master to the basin then you can start mounting into the mold box, Spray the release agent, then pour in the rubber.

P.S. Here is the shit I use for my molds, It is safe on the material which is more than I can say about some of the other shit on the market.

Don't worry, I've got some release agent, and a vibrator.
A fucked up seam is actually part of the original aesthetic (thank god its Russian)so cutting down the side was the idea.

Using oomoo 30 which ostensibly will cut back on air entrapment, but the overhangs are pretty bad. If nothing else I can clean it up in post, but I hope I won't have to (I will).

Is a sprue really necessary? I was hoping I could get away without one and just fill it to the brim since it'd make it easier to both mold and remove.

You think I should jury rig up a low pressure chamber? I have access to a manometer, what pressure do you typically hold them at? Probably more than I can get I imagine.
>>
>>35089498
Wait, no, I can sprue it from the inverse side without much trouble. Its really hard to think in 3D inverses and negative space, you probably get used to it after a while.

>Congrats on the FN49 too, I want a Belgian or Luxembourg but all I can find are Egyptians

Feast your eyes on this.

It's a version in .30-06 but without the army crests, so a civilian model. It's entirely original finish, no refinish.
Rifle was with FN for a very long time, and the collector who sold it to me (who bought it from FN), suspects it was a so called tool room model (or a reference model) at FN.

As soon as I get my grubby hands on it, I'll contact FN for more info.

Anyhow, I'm hitting the sack. Goodnight.

I only have 2 that I'm really holding onto for investment purposes. The others are rifles that will remain in my collection until they are either passed off to my kids or given to other family members. Basically, the ones I'm keeping are as follows;

>1954 Harrington & Richardson, correct
>1953 Harrington & Richardson, One of the first 500 produced by HRA and the 12th earliest serial number known to exist still
>1954 International Harvester, LEAD rebuild
>1943 Winchester with original WP proof barrel, might restore to correct one day when I have $3500 sitting around
>1945 Springfield, papered Navy Mk.2 Mod.1 Rifle
>1944 Springfield, beat up shooter grade rifle. Just think it's really neat cause it started on fire from the barrel channel getting so hot at some point in it's service. It's still pretty accurate too
>>
>>35089498
>oomoo

Yeah you will be lucky to get 5 rnds out of that before you tear it up good.

oomoo is best used to make a part to turn into a new master, for production it's shit

Yeah your going to need a pouring basin... trust me. Problem with casting is that you will always have some drainage, either from a leak in the split seam, or if not placed on an even surface...etc. But most of the time you want that extra material as it makes for a better casting... trust me.

As for the pressure yeah the best way to go is to pressure it but for a mold as big you are making / casting it will require a special pressure chamber that will run about $500.00

The vibrator should be ok though

If I were making the mold I would have the pouring basin location on the rear of of the part (the section that is close to the receiver), as on the part this is where the most amount of undercuts are found and will be easier to cast and pour the resin in with this being close to the top of the mold. also being thicker helps too
>>

It's a USGI model from WW2 and the Cutts compensator is factory. Already have the Ithaca as my riot gun so I don't really see a point to the Remington. Tried a round of skeet with it once and didn't hit shit.

The Ithaca's in great shape. Yeah, someone cut it down to 20". But I got it for $100 and it's one of the nice '40s models so who cares.
>>
>>35092841
Yeah you should be ok, the part you are making is not really a difficult part to mold / cast, just watch out with the undercuts on the back part of the handle, just follow the tips I mentioned above and you should be ok

Never used it before myself, but just looked up the specs... actually they pointed you in the right direction as in their tutorial they made 1911 grips.

https://youtu.be/ts61vhe4Hd0

As for dying They sell a dye, but on my castings believe it or not I use Black rustollium paint. I drip it in with a Popsicle stick before I mix in part 2... Since the 320 is off white it gives me a ABS plastic grey color, 380 looks to be a yellow color it would be interesting to see the tone that emerges. not sure if it's a good way to go with your needs but possibly worth giving it a try.

Just don't add too much paint or their dye as you too much dye will throw off the mix and make the part more fragile, or will cause issues with the curing process.

I loved it, it really shot well. It killed a Vortex Venom in under 500 rounds, so I put the RMR that's now on my AR pistol on it and used it for deer last fall. Didn't see shit the few times I was able to get out.
>>
>>35093428
Well, they didn't recommend it by name. Basically just pointed me toward the same video and I went from there. Good enough for gun grips, good enough for a forend. Already got some of their brown and black dyes, mixing it in the right proportions is gonna be tricky though. Hopefully they have a guide or something.
>>
>>35093560
The color is really something your going to get to figure out yourself as it depends on the volume your mixing. The smaller the less dye you use and vise versa.

For looking at the size of the part you are making a I'd guesstimate You can put about a plastic spoon amount in and should be fine, possibly double should not cause any issues for the look your going for a.

Just when you mix in the dye... be sure to get that mixed in thoroughly as if not it can cause issues, Basically it's a lot like mixing Nestle Quick, same could be said for the rubber aswell
>>
>>35093560
BTW for mixing I rec. using clear plastic party cups from the supermarket. They are clear so it helps with the measuring, and since they have lines molded in them you can use that as a guage for getting the equal amount of material in each. They come in different sizes and I also use these cups for rubber too

I need to get a CZ75 SP01 or similar model or a striker fired 9mm but every time pay comes around I end up buying milsurp and ammo instead. Right now I'm torn between a beautiful K96/11 and a Smith Corona 1903A3, both at around $860 after fees.
