I'm starting to get into shooting and I've seen a lot of videos online about the benefits of reloading your brass. It seems like you're spending a lot of money to spend a lot of time to save several cents a shot. Is it really worth it? I've even seen people digging lead out of the dirt in the range to cast their own bullets. So, /k/, redpill me on reloading.

reloading wont save you a damn dime but you get more ammunition per dollar spent and from what I've heard a relaxing hobby

I reload, and I even mine berms for lead.
I literally enjoy reloading more than shooting. It's a zen/aspie thing.
As anon said, you won't save a dime, but you'll be able to shoot more for the same $. If you shoot a lot, anyway. If you're only going to be shooting 200 rounds per year, it will take a century to recoup equipment costs.
So, from reading your post, I'd venture a guess that you would not find it to be "really worth it."

What calibre would benefit the most from being reloaded? My dad's getting a hunting rifle, but I've always had a thing for .45 calibre pistols or pistols in general. I'm just testing the waters with shooting right now, but if I do get into it I want to know everything that's involved.

the bigger the rounds you shoot, the more worth it it is.
also can be worth it if you burn through a fuckload of ammo.

>redpill
get fucked Nazi this is a progressive board
>>35074423
Going off what I assume, it seems it's worth it if you either shoot a fuck ton, or shoot guns with rare/expensive calibers
>>35074423
You save a ton if you shoot milsurps, and don't have to worry about finding ammo ever.

Jesus, hate fuck the guy for using a term that everyone knows initially from an awesome sci-fi. Next you'll tell me using the "okay" hand signal means I secretly have an SS shrine in the attic.
You sound real fucking "progressive" - "Tolerance, Humanity, TOLERANCE! Hey, you don't think exactly like I do! So, FUCK OFF YOU INHUMAN MONSTER!!!"
You fucking hypocrites make me sick.

It depends on you OP.
If you want full controllability over your loads for hunting or precision rifle shooting then reloading is for you.
If you shoot big calibers (30-06, 300 win mag ect.) or uncommon calibers often then reloading is also for you
I personally think reloading is relaxing and it saves me alot of money when I make hunting rounds for my 223 and 30-06
>>35075226
The fuck it is you progressive faggot.
>>35074423
It makes sense if you shoot several thousand handgun rounds per year, want to make really accurate rifle ammo or shoot some snowflake caliber. It's fun if you have the personality for detail and repetitive tasks, and a fuck-ton of reading. I reload for 9mm, 10mm, 45 ACP, 44 Mag and 556, probably going to start 300 Blackout pretty soon.

I see... I guess I'll start saving my brass in the event that I do get into reloading, then when I invest in the equipment I'll have plenty of casings to use.
Also, I'm amused a how many people are getting triggered at my use of the term "redpill". I'm asking for people's opinions on reloading, not trying to start a political debate here. LOL
>>35075411
Forgot to say, you need to scavenge brass too in order to save money.

Should I ask my local range to sort through the brass?
>>35075527
Correction: Should I ask my local range to allow me to sort through the brass dropped at the range?
