Are Americans putting any effort into tanks at the moment besides marginal upgrades? It feels like we're just focusing on air-to-ground anti tank shit.

M1A2. Cause I'm a practical man and I like proven combat performance and high-quality Western engineering.
>>

>It feels like we're just focusing on air-to-ground anti tank shit.
If we blow all enemy tanks then our tanks just become expensive to run, moving bunkers. At that point we might as well use cheaper, more maneuverable APCs and do the usually pin enemy down then 1000lb bomb their position.

T-72.

Ever since I nearly got run over by one while cycling a forest trail in Poland, I've been in love with this little machine that bites.

And it keeps the Muslim population in check as well, all across the globe.

Sherman, half because I'm murican and therefore biased towards everything from this great nation of ours, half because it was the quintessential tank of WW2. It worked well, had acceptable upgrade potential and acceptable mobility, was able to coordinate well cuz radios and was reliable and easy enough to fix that we didn't have the problems the T-34 had when teething (at least not at the same scale) nor the same fuckery that the Panthers had. Most importantly, no other chassis was as versatile. For example, no other chassis could be a medium tank and heavy/assault tank (Jumbo) or even jury rig a bigger gun to allow it to fill the roles of a tank destroyer depending on what armor you welded on or what gun you gave it.Call them zippos all you want, but the fact is that when planning military strategy in a WW2 setting you'd be remiss to not at least consider the Sherman as a tank of choice.

Not him but i remember his dads story, really comfy in a way.
The tank came from Slovenia, at the start of the total yugoslav war, the yugoslav army retreated under gunfire from slovenia and convoys of army equipment and made its way to bosnia, i think.
Then the war in bosnia started and the tank was in service of the Bosnian Serbs, broke trough the corridor 92 (famous battle) and got hit from the front by rpg 2 times, didnt penetrate.
Got used as a towing vehicle for many machines, kitchen and bathroom appliances, tv's, expensive furniture, everything worth something that was taken.
Marauding and smuggling is what the south slavs are known for.
Then at the end of the war if i remember correctly, nato got involved and serbs in croatia were all expelled, but that anon mentioned that he was a tiny kid back then and his dad got relieved and drove him in the tank just before the yugoslav army (Serbia) took it away across to their territory. Mentioned he saw the thank being repainted and tidied up before a parade when Putin shoved up in Belgrade for a visit.
His dads tank is still alive and in service, could end up in Kuwait, because they buy the serbshit a lot.
I forgot the nickname of the tank.
The tank is basically a modified t72.

And he mentioned 8ball from Kelly's heroes for some reason i cant remember

Id even leave my gf for a t72, fuck, even a t55 if she had problems with me giving 50k for a tank. And barrels upon barrels of diesel.
Id go on adventures as soon as i found people that will let me drive it across their land, even take them with me.
In winter. Dressed and armed in slavshit.

I like the classical Leopard 2 A4 , tho not as well protected as later models I still like the simple turret design .

Also I knew online two persons who crew the leo2A4 at the time ( separate tanks )

one tied the Simpsons dolls to the rear antenna and got spray painted in pink "flower power" by some locals when their tank was on the train carriage that stop at the country side for some shit reason and the MPs that came over to take a look had a good laugh .

Then while on maneuver he (gunner) told me they could see bunnies making out at night (thermal night sight) at over 2000m . . .

(1) Looks cool
(2) Good all round stats

There is an old game, Very old, called Steel Panthers 3. You can build custom scenarios or use some pre made ones. You can string together these scenarios into a Campaign. You get to keep your "army" from the previous scenario , even upgrade it. BUT you can grab scenarios from any time and stick them in there. So I made a custom game. 1st scenario had to be modern 1999 (highest year the game has) but the rest of the scenarios came from world war 2.

Premise of my campaign was Time traveling group goes back in time To save Germany in world war 2. So Modern Leopard 2s vs Hordes of soviet T-34s and IS 1s , Stopped the Russian advance over a series of battles , Swung west. took out hordes of Shermans.

You actually can lose tanks especially to air attacks but have a massive advantage in tech that off sets limited numbers. Fun as hell to play through even though I had to spend hours designing scenarios . Trying to get enemy army compostions at least plausible.

And that's why Leopard 2s are my favorite.

The T-62 has 5 roadwheels, like the T-55. Best way to tell the T-55 and T-62 apart is roadwheel gaps--the T-55 has the big gap up front, the T-62 in rear.

Serious question regarding the Armata;
They've designed it with all of these faceted surfaces in an attempt to reduce the vehicles RCS, right? So how come they left the barrel untouched? I know it was only a body-kit, but the PL-01 had an angular jacket around the barrel for this purpose. Why not just slap a bit of sheet metal on there?

Nah, the problem is the obvious russian bias of the devs, where russian tanks for some bizarre reason deal a fuckton more average damage than western ones, despite just 5mm of caliber difference, and also reload faster.

And then there are the truly OP tanks from the chinese line, but nobody complains because nobody plays chinkshit except good players who are smart enough to not complain to the devs about chink tanks being fucking amazing

Also for AFVs the new czech/polish AFV line is fucking magical

Retard. One of the specific things of note with the Pokpung-ho is the extended chassis with the six road wheel. It's a T-62 at heart dude, this is pretty well established. I bet you think the Romanian TR-85 is also a T-72 or some shit even though it's derived from the T-55.
>>
>>35086824
Actually it's a combination of a Leopard 1 chassis and a Type 79 turret with a romanian designed gun and electronics.

My guess, it isn`t "complete" set of equipment for T-14. In combat situation, at the very least, the "nakidka" IR-masking cover supposed to be used. Bad thing, it looks completely unimpressive, so, ill-suited for parade. Most likely, if the anglea are actually for RCS reduction, some kind of addon kit for barrel is also included.

>>

That body kit is not bad to easy to do upgrade the Leo2A4, only problem I see is that it keeps the gunner's sight gap in the armor. For the A5 they removed that weakness and moved the sight upwards which involved redoing the interior and welding and stuff.

AVRE's are just for building, mineclearing, destroying sandpeople hovels, etc
Besides, we don't have AVRE's on their own in enemy territory. They have support.

Okay, so it wasn't the standard 7.2 inch howitzer, it had a longer barrel

Wiki gives me 92kg and the only fucking place i can find the muzzle velocity for the lengthened tank version is the damn war thunder wiki at 716m/s

lets assume those values are correct, that is 23.5MJ of muzzle energy. Compared to about 28MJ for the 120mm M256 on the abrams

But that is firing HE, which usually has a smaller powder charge and kinetic energy favors velocity over weight (formula is (M'V^2)/2 )

the M256 firing a slow ammunition, like HEAT, get sonly 13 MJ of muzzle energy

Meaning if you use the M256 as a reference, and doubling the muzzle energy by using AP, the 183mm L4 gun will have almost 50MJ of muzzle energy

which is a lot

>It's probably T-72 variant, as it has 6 roadwheels.

Nope. It just has extended chassis. You can see the gunners sight on the right side of the tank and commander's cupola behind the gunners position and there is one more hatch on the left side of the tank so it's safe to assume it has a human loader.

What really baffles me is that they still haven't developed a periscopic gunners main sight with integrated LRF but instead even in their newest tanks there is an opening for the old T-62 style telescopic gunners sight on the turret front and the LRF is a box on top of the gun.

Pros
Lighter than Panther while being better armored than Tiger 1. Cannon had 3 times more KE than short 88. Didn't even needed to use AP rounds HE ussually was enough to give any tank a bad day. Impressive mobility for a heavy tank in WW2 standarts. Reliable transmission and powerfull diesel engine. Easy to maintain and carry on trains, so good logistics.
Cons
Cramped ass hell. After the turret ammo is used reloading became problematic. Okay FCS but no match to German ones. Lots of weakpoints in design, like guntrap.

>>35075630
Even though I like how new T-90 looks and all shtora system. Knowing that it uses weak diesel engine with WW2 levels of transmision makes me dislike that tank. Even IS-2 can reverse faster than T-90.

No, T-90 is Object 188 that was originally intended to be called "T-72B Improved" and was essentially T-72B with T-80U electronics. T-90A is a T-90 with the turret of the rivalling Object 187, a completely new MBT that was cancelled due to the collapse of the USSR. The only think that barely resembles T-72 in modern T-90 is chassis.
