I'd consider getting the Scout model M1A. From what I've read people say that the SOCOM is too short. Personally, I have the full length one.

Like everyone else is saying, get the scout. You'll get more out of the round and 2 inches doesn't make it that much more unwieldy

Not to be a debby downer or anything, you just give up a shitload of velocity for losing just two inches of barrel length, plus the oprod and other parts (like porting, if I remember correctly) are slightly different to accommodate the dimensions, so you'd be stuck buying SOCOM 16 parts instead of being able to use standard M1A parts for those specific reasons.

I've played this game before and ultimately left me out of buying an M1A entirely because of how much money one dumps to get it sufficiently accurate, but when you do... it's a dream to shoot.

In the end it's up to you, but if you were dead set on buying either JUST those two, M1A SOCOM in a heartbeat over the Mini. Just too many damn issues with Minis depending what series you get and they're in their own little world when it comes to parts altogether.

FYI, you don't have to modify to keep them. A disassembled gun is not an assault weapon, as long as it stays that way.

Limit, or leave behind any >10 round mags, though. Even disassembly is unacceptable for them.

Mini 14 is a great gun out of the box and has some small shit you can do to it to make it better. You don't have options like the AR but it shoots the same load and does what it was designed to do it's a carbine. M1a is a bad add battle rifle and feels great to hold it especially if you feel the need to shoot out engine blocks or engage people at 800 yards

580 series mini 14 is OK. Here's what I got at 50 yards on my last range trip with irons from the bench. Each square is 1 x 1 inch. I'm pretty sure I can get them all in the light green area if I aimed at the actual center instead of where I though the center dot was.
