The more I read up on the Vietnam war the more surreal it seems. Guys drinking and doing drugs while deployed, lax uniform standards, half the guys don't want to be there, mix race units when race relations were still terrible, and an overall aesthetic that No other war has matched. I would love to spend 1 month as a GI during the war just to experience it.

Those are captured Malayan communist weapons, they are known to have NVA men training and teaching them tunnel base construction in South Thailand. Most of the WW2 weapons air dropped to communists in order to fight Japanese occupation were already worn out by the late 80's but the M1 looks rather new compared to their Sten guns and assorted rifles.
