Just got word back from the smith on this, everything looks perfectly good except for the barrel, which is pitted to the point of it most likely being unsafe to fire. It's still a cool buy, especially for the price I paid, but who knows when I'm going to be able to find a barrel for it that doesn't cost more than what I paid for the gun.

looks like scrwp metal

i love you bro

kys nigger
If the pitting isn't to far, you might consider having the barrel cut short. Maybe down to a 20 inch or 18 inch, but Idk.

mine is in working order though. so i guess i win

Thanks my man, I'm trying to find one in fireable condition that doesn't cost as much or more than what I paid for the whole gun lol. I figured for 270 I could probably make it work with a little more and still walk away with a good deal.

Good luck anon. Its a beautiful shotgun, hopefully you can get it working. Although I'm only going to be shooting target loads out of mine. Also heres a list of dates of manufacture along with the serial numbers of that year.

Mine was made in 1922

I've got you beat by a decade, mine's from 1912. My smith said he's going to be working a booth at a nearby gunshow this month, at he said he's seen 97 barrels go for as low as 50 dollars in working condition so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I want to chop the barrel on mine.

Since it's an 1897Fest in here
Here's mine, built in 1908
I want an 1897 So bad but Winchesters are either clapped out or expensive as fuck. Really wish somebody besides China made a decent repro. Amazed Miroku hasn't cashed in on cowboy shooting.
So gents, restore an old winchester, wait for a good one, or buy a cimmaron
>>35063252
How is the quality on the Cimarrons?
>he's concerned about the barrel
Really?
I shoot this one regularly.
1904 here.
>>35063553
Yeah, even my smith said he would only shoot it with the lightest loads possible and only very sparingly and very occasionally. I'm kind of new to this stuff and don't want to blow up anything or ruin anything.

Now that I looked into it for, that first time in a whole, shifty. I was thinking the Cimarrons were IAC rebrands but they aren't. The IACs are good for the money.
