What's going on /k/?
I was wondering if there are any anons out here tonight that own indoor public ranges that allow suppressors.
I went to my local indoor range and the one staff member was almost being autistic when telling me that they want to see the tax stamp as well as to double check the serial numbers and make sure its registered to you.

WTF? why being so fucking anal about it? If you got something to cut the noise a little and the staff knows you are not some fuck up off the street, why should they care if you got something to cut the noise down a little.
>>
>>35061479
usually its insurance reasons
>>
>>35061511
Insurance reasons? I don't follow.
What could go wrong?
>>
>>35061539
Suppressors have a reputation of overheating (sometimes to the point of failure).

If the suppressor is improperly mounted, I suppose it could send the bullet astray.
>>
>>35061539
liability insurance wont pay for a lawsuit if the range willingly lets illegal activity happen on premise.
>>
>>35061628
Never thought of that, thanks for the info.

>>35061635
>illegal activity
Like what, someone slapping on an oil or fuel filter to the end of the barrel?
>>
>>35061635
They don't check if the gun's not stolen
>>
Ranges are scared ATF is gonna come and give em shit for not ratting on people with illegal shit.
>>
>>35061666
Are you implying that it is legal to just slap an oil filter to the end of the barrel?
>>
>Like what, someone slapping on an oil or fuel filter to the end of the barrel?

I think they're more worried about someone bringing in an illegal (stolen or something) suppressor, getting hurt, then when the bolice come, the shop gets fucked for allowing illegal suppressors.

The whole situation should be a nonissue and silencers should be unregulated.

>>35061717
Are you retarded?

Probably insurance or other legal matters. That being said, people get easily fucking freaked out by suppressors, and gun store employees are easily some of the most easily spooked and paranoid fuckers on the planet.

If it bothers you that much, honestly find a new range. I quit hitting my own range after they vehemently argued with me that body armor was LEO-only and was absolutely not for civilians, ever. I told them to go fuck themselves, and found a new place to shoot.
>>

>>
>>35062273
I wasn't wearing it, but they had some pretty nice shit for sale. I got fitted and it felt good, and when I went to pay they asked me if I was an LEO. I said no, because I didn't think that'd make any difference, and the chick behind the counter straight flipped shit.

Spent the better part of 10 minutes bitching about how I was trying to get them to commit a felony, wasting their time, and that they should call the cops on me because I was certainly going to go shoot someone up with IIA armor.

Thanks but no thanks, I'm really not trying to hang around people who are that ignorant in their chosen profession.

You're lucky. There was a rather infamous incident around here (NorCal) in which an RSO threw a guy off his range for having an AK pistol, which the RSO believed to be an SBR for which the guy didn't have an NFA tax stamp. The guy wrote a complaint email to the range, and the range responded by reporting the guy to the California DOJ "to clarify the issue" (keep in mind that Califoirnia requires its own separate state paperwork for SBRs, which is even harder and more expensive to get than the ATF's). A lot of people around here crossed that range, and its associated gun shop, off their list for that. Ironically, it means that now only noobs and idiots go there to shoot, which makes the RSO's job even harder.
>>
>>35062355
that was exactly her intentions
>>
>>35062413
I was fuckin livid. It would've been absolutely fine if they'd just said, "Oh, we don't sell armor to non-LEO's because it's a store policy." As retarded as that is, that's their choice, and I can respect that. This bitch tried to argue with me about how it's straight ILLEGAL for non-LEO's to own body armor. Any kind. Soft, hard, whatever. It's a demonstrably false statement, and she absolutely refused to look it up on her smart phone. Just fucking infuriating, man. So I went online and bought my own soft plate for cheaper, funny how that fucking works out.

They have no legal right to check your stamp. Not even local pd. The o ly people you must show your stamp to are ATF or treasury agents.

My local range sells silencers, they have never asked to see my stamps for anything, (i have silencers, sbr, and sbs), nor would i show them.

I have never ever had any authority or RSO ask to check my stamps while at the range.
People have asked to see them out of curiosity. I keep a photo copy in ny ranfe bag, abd did a presentation for my local gun club introduce people to the process.

The ATF has visited me 1 time to check my books whn i has my ffl. That was the only time i have had to show my stamps to any one that mattered.
>>
It's their range. If they want to see your stamp as a condition to use their facility then comply.

>>
>>35063709
Well of course I figured you could always opt-out.
So I have always wondered. What are the prerequisites for suppressor ownership?

>>
>>35063750
Suppressor ownership is really simple but a huge pain in the ass

Its simple, buy a suppressor at a store, get an NFA stamp tax for the item, pay 200 dollars for said tax

>and then wait 12+ months for it to get done because the ATF is so backed up and too busy shooting dogs to get this shit out on time.

At least getting an SBR stamp tax is relatively quick
>>
>>35063769
What's the average cost by the end of all stamp tax rigmarole?
>>
>>35063804
depends on the silencer. But take what ever it is and add 200 dollars plus your time waiting for it

I showed him the exact fucking statutes that actually specifically allow us to do so and he got fucking pissed as shit.

I have literally no idea how the "civilians cant own body armor" meme started. Its even more retarded then "class 3 license" memes.

No.

If you're on private property they can ask you for whatever they want and kick you off if you do not provide.

If you're on public land a LEO can't ask you for anything unless he has probable cause that you are or have committed a crime.

Lolno. The entire purpose of the NFA was to make it so mobsters could be hit with 10 year sentences even when they couldn't prove that they had committed any real crimes. The original draft of the law required a tax stamp for handguns too.
Bear in mind that $200 was more than the average man made in a month at the time. The law was set up solely to make it unfeasible for anyone to own a suppressor, SBR, or SBS legally unless they were rich.

That's exactly what you used to be able to do before some overreaching civil rights laws were passed. Not that I agree with doing so, and people are totally free to boycott you for being a retard, but you should totally have the right to refuse service to anyone at any time for any reason, at least if you run a private business.

>This mentality is bullshit.

No, this mentality is that private property rights are important. If it's your business, you should get to decide who to serve with it.

Demanding people show you their cuckstamps before you let them use their NFA shit on your range is stupid, but it's 100% their right to do so.

Service is not exclusively to retail numbnuts. My first job was being a waiter before a store clerk and that did not blemish over my quality of work. Mostly if they are not working there the ranges themselves only hire people that technically have "power" over prestige of an existing job or force interim volunteer service pior their membership. The real fuckups that don't even care about firearms in general or the people that want to learn more about them are always the pencil pushers and number crunchers in which are allowed to work at those locations.
