I carry both....the 9MM for most days and .380 for those days that it's so hot that I just decide to carry a small .380 in my pocket.

Your question doesn't have enough qualifiers. Bigger bullet is always better, but there are dozens of factors that change this.

If you're CC'ing in a hot, humid place and need to hide it under a thin shirt and shorts, you're gonna want a slim-frame .380.

But if it's the dead of winter in Alaska, you could CC a shotgun under all the layers you'd be wearing.

Use the biggest bullet possible.
Being propelled as fast as possible.
With the highest capacity possible.
In a frame as small as possible.
Using these four rules will determine what you can carry in a given environment.

.380 is the ceiling of cartridges that include .32, .25. Acp, and 9x18.

.38 special outclasses the .380 and is the floor of service pistol cartridges including 9mm, .40, .357 sig, and .45.

.32acp is a better defensive caliber than .44 mag. Why? Because I can drop my P32 into my jeans pocket. If I tried wearing the Redhawk it'd look like I had a third leg. Even if that impresses the girls it's not very practical for EDC.

Try to carry the gun you shoot best with, the bigger the better (within reason). It's definitely better to have a .380 in your pocket than a 9mm in your car. I've always felt that if you are determined to carry, get the biggest small gun that you'd be willing to carry every waking hour first, then a double stack afterwards.
