hey anons, thinking of doing an A1 repro. Anyone know if there is anything in particular to watch out for? such as triangular a1 handguards not fitting standard or heavy profile barrels, or having to do something to fit the a1 stock to the receiver?

I plan to just get the handguard and stock from fulton armory since they seem to have everything. The only thing im not going to repro is the upper receiver. I plan to use a BCM a4 upper. And just throw on a carry handle. This way if i get bored I can convert it to an A4 if I want.

It is a give and take. Mini cans have reduced suppression performance, so are more at home on a longer quieter barrel. Furthermore they minimize the length and weight added to a long barrel.

At the same time though an SBR is meant to be compact. Sure you can throw a longer can on there to quiet down the massive blast of a 10.5" barrel, and it really won't be much longer than an un-suppressed 16", but you lose a lot of the benefits of an SBR in the first place.

No it definitely will make a difference. As far as I can tell suppression is relatively linear in dBs vs length/size of the can, but this means that actual "loudness" isn't linear with length/size of the can. Our brains don't really process sound linearly anyway, so that particular non-linearity (between can size/length and dBs) is really only important in terms of hearing safe, not so much in terms of actual perceived loudness.

It depends on what your priorities are. Trying to reduce the muzzle report of the sbr so as to avoid annoying fellow shooters or team members? Just trying to cut the sound so as to not annoy people in houses nearby? Mini can will work well.

Really trying to make the rifle as hearing safe as possible? Biggest can you can get on there reasonably.

Trying to reduce your muzzle signature so tangos can't locate you? Larger is better for that obviously.

Youll find that the more you learn about ARs and what kinds of parts work best for you the more willing youll be to build something with all the parts youve found you like.

Start with a simple build like the one you linked, learn what parts you like, swap out ones you dont, and at some point down the road when you decide you want to build another, the build process will be much easier selection wise and you'll have a rifle you like probably twice as much.

Hello /k/ I don't frequent this part of 4chan too much, but I've been a collector of mainly WW2 firearms for quite some time. I'm looking to expand my arsenal to include more modern weaponry, and since I already own an SKS and don't see much of a point to getting an AK at the moment, I've been considering an AR. Outside of the pistols I own, I've never fired anything smaller than 7.62x39 so this would be my first foray into the world of 5.56, but conceptually speaking I like the idea and have wanted one for a while.

Anyway, I've been lurking a bit and browsing a few other places and looking for good recommendations for a make/build to break into AR ownership with. I've had some suggestions from friends, and the price range I'm going for is up to 1200. Aside from my R700 with a proper scope, I don't own any weapons which have been modified beyond iron sights, so I'm also up for suggestions about rails + grips, etc if anybody has any.

So I posted my budget AR a day or two ago and someone said davidson defence parts are prone to failure. I have no idea if this is true, as all the complaints I found in reviews are nebulous enough that it could be retards treating their gun wrong. Either way, I want to swap the BCG to something else just in case. The only other davidson part is the handguard, so that'll stay because how do you fuck up a handguard?

That would depend on how large of an impact it really has on effective range. I'm ok with greater barrel lengths, it doesn't have to be a true carbine, but if the trade off isn't too bad (i.e. shorter barrel options only take range down by maybe 100-200 yards) then I wouldn't mind going the shorter route. I have no experience with these rifles so

I'm not sure if it make a huge difference like it would for example in a 91/30 vs m44 nagant or something, but generally speaking I like the idea of something on the shorter, more carbine-like side.

I'd probably recommend a 16" barrel with a mid-length gas system for your first AR
It's relatively compact, and you're not losing much effective range from 18" or 20"

It could, I'd want a sling regardless, not sure if a light is necessary, optics sound interesting, I've never used anything but a leupold scope up to 12x, so some of those smaller acog like scopes are interesting as well as holos or whatever else there is out there. I suppose you're getting at how much of the budget can actually go to the gun for a make/model recommendation, so I'd say if you have any good advice including the sling and whichever optics you would recommend, that's probably what I'd be most interested in.

Tough price bracket, most of the big feature .22s are $400 and there isn't much at $350 you can't get for less from TacSol or Thompson Machine.

I'd say probably the Thunderbeast .22. It's an impressive silencer imo. So is the CGS Hydra for a lot less.

Really, anything that's user serviceable and made from the strongest material you can accept the weight of is great for .22. I think there are even a few titanium offerings under $350.
