Thinking of building a light ish weight rifle for hitting 10in plates out at 700-800yds. My question is, I can get an 18in mid length barrel, but I planned to have an A1 stock, that means rifle buffer. will this work? Ive googled it, and it seems having a rifle buffer with mid gas, makes the rifle shoot smoother. But no actual detailed info beyond that. Can anyone shed some light on that?

Rifle parts i have so far, aero upper and lower, geissele trigger, dd bcg, jp silent buffer, vortex pst gen2, geissele mount, seekins handguard, seekins flash hider, and FA A1 stock kit.

I chose the A1 stock because I like it.

The M1a is not in service. But we wont go there with the whole springfield isnt springfield bit. The M14 is, it is still carried in the basic configuration and a slew of modern configs. We weren't the only ones to adopt it. Many NATO participants did/do still use it. Philippines, korea, even china has their own version. In terms of popularity over the others? Import laws here and there and availability. A receiver will cost an arm and a leg for anything other than springfield armory.
