Normally there is a cadet structure resembling normal units mostly battalion level and lower. Normally most large programs have about 1 full company. Each class has an officer (O-3) and an NCO (E-6+). The seniors also known as MSIV's are taught by the LTC and MSG of the school.

That sounds a lot like JROTC. At my school the LTC and MSG were retired. Are the ROTC ones active duty or anything? Because it sounds like they need boot to ass too if they are allowing that level of slack from their cadets.

At normal (NG) units we are normally attached or put into the role of PLs. I work at a BDE S-4 so its a tad different for me but same concept.

They follow a battalion as it is the smallest unit that can actually conduct itself with some degree of autonomy. For uniforms they need someone for supply, for maintenance of rifles they need someone, for planning they need an officer, and so on. A battalion is as small as it goes while still having a staff. As far as the cadet body goes, it is only about enough for a full company, but most battalions will have two just to serve as an example of how a normal battalion looks.

If cadets are walking around as described in violation of AR 670-1 and are infact cadets not just people who have some old army shit then they need to be corrected. Normally I do so by first correcting them in private, then if they continue I call them out in front of others. Examples of corrections I have made:

>Headphones in while in uniform outside
>Talking on phone or looking at phone while walking
>PC is on fucked up like they're hunting coons
>Patches in wrong spot
>Trousers unbloused
>Shoestrangs hanging out

One must keep in mind that new cadets (MSI's) sometimes have zero prior military experience and needed to be mentored hence why I don't immediately shit on them.

Mixing IPFU clothes with civilian clothes is allowed when off-post and if authorized, on-post while off-duty. Basically, just don't show up in formation looking like that.
