Got my Remington 1903A3 yesterday. Got it in a trade. I don't think the previous owner ever fired it because it's missing the ejector, and it became pretty apparent it was missing after firing it, so I ordered one, informed him I got the rifle and it was missing the ejector but it's not a big deal, and now he's sending me $10 to cover the ejector so that's nice of him.

Appears to be a new production stock, I assumed so from the pictures I received too, but that doesn't really bother me. The rifle is in phenomenal shape.

Both my Kar98k rifles get Yugo or Ecuadorian Surplus. Any Eastern Bloc surplus for my M39, I try to keep shooting light ball. Right now I have some BXO 66 Czech Lightball. GP 11 for the K31. Enfield No4 MK2 gets PPU .303 British. I don't know if PPU loads their 174FMJ light or if my rifle is just old but my 200 yard setting for the leaf sights hits POA at 100.... The Battle Sights are all sorts of fucked out of alignment.

Need some help here guys. Calling on anyone who knows anything about 1891 Argentine Mausers. There is one at my LGS, it is in decent shape, all matching from what numbers i can find (including the stock), the strange thing about it is that the rifle is carbine length, but has the 2000m rear sight, as well as a bent bolt (looks original, not a bubba job), and instead of ears protecting the front sight, it has the standard length endcap with the front sight mounted on that instead of mounted on the barrel. The front sight is unprotected, but looks like it was manufactured that way professionally. The barrel ends at the cap with none sticking out to mount a bayonet on. Also, on the underside of the endcap, there are file marks where the bayonet mount has been removed. The rest of the rifle hasn't been touched as far as I can tell, and is in great shape besides the scrubbing of the crest. Bore looks decent. Did the Argentinians chop down full length rifles like Russia did with some 91/30s? Or is this most likely a nicely done conversion? I found only a couple pictures of the style I am talking about. Pic related is the best one. They have $400 on the rifle, would it be worth it?

Quick question, how often are you supposed to remove the stock of your rifle to clean it? I don't get to shoot a lot, maybe 40 rounds every two weeks and I clean the bore, receiver and bolt every time.

I personally need to get some finish and get seal the wood on the inside of my Mosin's stock. Just bare and kinda rough wood. Though I don't feel I should sand it because I don't any backward movement from the receiver or downward movement on the cocking piece as I pull the trigger.

It's a 1907 receiver, so it'a likely one that was just updated. And the bolt /is/ that of a 93. Disassembly is exactly as one should be.

But in either case, I got the gun for free aside from transfer fees (30 bucks). So, as long as it doesn't blow up in my face be a bitch with cartridges. The chamber doesn't look pitted and the rifling is strong and clear. My main concern is that it was a neglected piece from a gun show and the inner surfaces of the bolt pieces are surface rusted. Any tips on easily getting that shite taken care of in places I can't just sit down and scrub?

any unblued parts can be dunked in vinegar or evaporust to eat it away. Bluing would be removed. Obviously not a problem with the bolt.

I would 100% make sure its in whatever caliber it was advertised in first. That is clearly a rebarreled gun, and bubba'd. Get some cerosafe and make a chamber casting. I would be worried its in .30-06 or .308.

Because there's nothing on the right that you'd have to cut through. It's for the tip of the thumb, not the base, and it's so you get all of the cartridges down in the mag in one quick go without having to adjust your thumb to get that last one in.

Those are original rounds for the Type 99 rifle. The Type 99 LMG also used the same cartridge, but they used a heavier projectile for them specifically. 183gr vs 203gr.

Gotcha.
And the guy's at my shop chambered a dummy round also set it in loose. There was a tiny bit of movement with the round, but not enough to say it's long if it were .308 And 30.06 brass would be too long. Plus my 30 cal brush and sponge don't fit down the bore, the .270s I have are just about right, perhaps a little loose because 7mm is supposed to .280.
Plus I don't have the means at home to do a chamber cast, not easily anyways. And it'd cost me 150 (More than the value of the rifle) to get it done at my local shop. I can get calipers to get a better ball park though. Needless to say I'll be test firing with it tied to a tree.

Don Schlickman makes repro rods.

I don't know why you would really care all that much. The rods aren't seen from the outside, and nearly all Type 44s are missing the rods. They aren't even useful for cleaning as the early Type 44s didn't have space for the jag inside of the buttstock either.

Anyways measurements:
Length is 205mm.
Smallest portion diameter: 4mm
Widest portion diameter: 6mm
Widest portion is 40mm in length then flares down for about 3mm.
380mm with both rods attached. The threading starts in the middle of the flared portion. It screws in 30mm.
The threaded portion is 10mm long.

And you're probably right about the goofy thread diameter. I tried finding a nut to fit on the monopod spring bolt for my Type 99. Can't find it. I should probably try to email Don...

But really, you're just wasting your time and effort making them.

About maybe a $1 a round. More if you had an intact original box which you don't. It sounds like it may be the original box, but maybe the lid torn off. The original boxes were sorta triangular to fit in the cartridge pouches.

I paid $400 for mine, under $500 after shipping and transfer.

There's two types of gun shows near me, one is small, local affairs filled with old guys selling mostly old guns.

The other is the standard corporate fare with 75% new stuff from large stores.

I go to both, because they both have 'surp, but the smaller ones are much comfier.

Probably PPU, they tend to be cheap but good enough for a lot of less-common calibers.
>>
>>35068903
That's what I was thinking. Can get it from some local shops for as cheap as 13.50 a box. Which isn't much more than what I pay for WPA for my mosin. Though I after my next shooting trip I'll figure out if Tula is more my style for recoil, plus usually only between around ten bucks a box. That's very much.

The only thing I hate dealing with are spring loaded barrel bands, in terms of disassembly.
The ones on my Swedish Mauser's kill my hands and I refuse to use a C-clamp.

My Hakim's gas system is pretty annoying to clean. Properly cleaning it after shooting corrosive is a bitch. You have to remove the entire rear sight assembly to get the gas tube out.

So my new Belgian Mauser wasn't feeding more than single rounds. Turns out the trigger guard got bent somehow earlier in life and it was pinching the magazine, preventing proper feeding. So with only a barbeque spatula and an engineers hammer (My garage is a mess right now) I managed to straighten it out and now it feeds fine. However the ejector isn't working either. There's supposed to be a piece of spring metal in the ejector box that keeps the ejector popped out (when the bold is fully retracted) so it can eject the cases when the bolt is pulled back. At least that's how it is with my Chilean. The spring in you ejector box may be broken. Try taking the ejector box off.

So, I know the action in my bubbaized m93 is 110 year old so I should expect a little roughness/work to be put into moving the bolt, but does anyone else here with a spanish mauser have a pretty stiff bolt during primary extraction? Mine takes some effort and seems to spring back. It's also touchy about the angle at which I pull it back at, gotta be direct back or it stutters.
