I do work on my cars but I wish I didn't have to. I don't mind it but I don't enjoy it. I fantasize about taking my old beat up truck to my mechanic and saying, "Go nuts, fix everything."

It's more important to me that the work is done excellently. I mean, sure, I wish I was a superman that could do everything perfectly. But the brutal truth is I'm probably about a third-rate mechanic at best and I'm only doing the work out of financial necessity.

I guess I'd enjoy it more if I was better at it, had better workspace and tools, and was doing it for the fun of it.

I'd assume that when the round is fired, the entire system is pressurized equally until the round leaves the barrel, the bolt doesn't move since it's being held forward by the lower piston which is larger than the top so it exerts a larger force, once the round leaves the barrel the pressure in the lower piston drops along with the rest of the barrel but the pressure in the top piston stays due to the check valve, once the forces are lower in the bottom piston the top pushes the bolt backwards and cycles the gun.

To actually make that work though you'd need to make the lower piston longer so that it doesn't bottom out before the bolt goes back far enough to load a new round, plus the upper piston would need to be rather airtight at several thousand PSI which would be difficult to do.

I don't like handguns for the same reason I don't like angle grinders or coping saws or railway signalling devices. They serve a purpose but I can't see them as anything more than tools.
