I am looking hard at the M&P Shield for my first CCW. I wanted 9MM with at least 7 rounds and some kind of safety. As well as being as small as possible.

It seems to fit the bill and is pretty cheap but want to ask owners of them if they are reliable? Do you have any regrets or complaints? Is this a smart purchase for $350 at lgs?
>>
>>35030073
Actually shit just noticed there is also a $75 rebate and it comes with 2 extra magazines 2 boxes of hornady critical defense and a mag loader.

Fuck should I get 2?
>>
>>35030073
>and some kind of safety
it's like you want to die.
>>
>>35030073

look at ruger sr9c

i'd get that 100x before getting s&w shield

do internet search for reviews
>>
>>35030190
OPs looking at a single stack so obviously he's a manlet. Why even bother suggesting a double? Plus, why even get the SR9C when the P2000sk/P2000 exist. Step your fucking game up.

It's a great little gun, I'd go for it OP. I personally didn't like the trigger at all, but that can be replaced by an apex easily.
>>
>>35030073
good choice OP.
have a shield and the M&P 2.0 and love both.

Trigger is the only downside. Long pull and it doesn't seem consistent in the reset or firing. Otherwise it's a solid little workhorse. I have close to 5,000 rounds through mine with no issues.
>>
>>35030073
It is a nice little gun, and it does carry well, i do enjoy mine, but at times i cant help but think it feels a little too plasticy. they are super reliable, and they are well worth the price.
>>
you're a couple months late to the party. they had been super fucking cheap with $75 rebate. now they're a little more expensive. i think there's a current rebate, but that depends on the state, either $75 OR the free extra mags & ammo.
they're likely trying to get rid of them all before the release of the shield 2.0.
glock 43 w/ +1 mag extension is noticeably smaller than the shield 9mm.
>>
>>35030073
You may have to alter your hold. The way I naturally grip a Shield, my thumb hits the slide lock.
>>
>>35030280
That's cause you're a fucking retard.

This the trigger is the only bad thing about the gun. Too long and just doesn't feel right representing how far you have to go, if that makes sense.
>>
>>35030073
Safeties are garbage in the modern age of kydex.
Then there's the issue with the trigger. I'm not someone who thinks you need some nice trigger in order to shoot well. I've never changed out triggers on any gun I've ever owned. I even accept the state of the SD9VE trigger and shot it well enough for self defense purposes. The Shield is a different situation though. Its trigger is downright bad. Bad enough that I would say it's not really even good enough for self defense. The break is so abrasive that it jerks the gun and throws it off target.
But seriously if you get the safety on this gun, enjoy spazzing out and pulling on a locked trigger in the event you're in a self defense situation.
>>
Anyone got suggestions on appendix kydex for these? CC ofc
>>
>>35030073

This >>35030204 or a Glock 43 would be a much better choice. M&P pistols are absolute trash.
>>
>>35030795
I have Glock43 and Shield. I have no issues with either except I was disappointed that the Shield came in a cardboard box. I barely use the Glock43 as these days I pocket carry and with the Shield's safety I feel fine with it being chambered. I regret buying the Glock43 simply because I didn't need it.

Best choice for the money. Glockfags get butthurt over it for some reason, though. Also...

You missed the summer mail in rebate. I got it a couple months ago and haven't regretted it.
>>
How strongly do you recommend an Apex trigger?
>>
>>35030073
I love mine, but definitely put it though it's paces and fire a few hundred rounds out of it. I only did 100 out of mine and was happy, carried it, maybe shot 10-30 rounds every 2-3 months out of it. And then one random day I decided to give it a wipe down and inspection, and the slide would not go back into battery. I don't know what caused it. The 'armorer' at my range couldn't figure it out either. I sent it back to SW and they fixed it, and it's been problem free for like 3 years and 500+ more rounds. From reading around, SW QC was/is kind of shit and they were just cranking out popular guns during the panic times that had issues that if you sent them back to SW they'd come back in great shape. Consider Talon grips for it. I don't have Talon grips on any other gun I own, but I really like them on the shield. I think it has better ergos than any other gun in the same class, and the extended magazine actually lets you get a full grip on the gun instead of half a pinky like others.
>>
>>35030371

If you can't thumb the safety on a fucking shield mid draw you deserve to die.

>Muh kydex

Glock leg isn't just a meme, and condition one carry is GOAT.
>>
>>35031147
The one for the extra mags and ammo or the $75? It is still going on till 9/30
>>
>people unironically recommending the Glock 43.

There's such a thing as being too much of a dick even here.
>>
>>35031136
My first 2 guns were an M&P9 and a shield. I sold the full size and bought a g17 and I'm still glad that I did. I love Glock and all, but the 43 is fucking garbage. The shield is so much better, and I don't know why some people get their pride hurt by that.
>>35031150
If you've got $150 burning a hole in your pocket, go for it. For a defensive gun the stock trigger is perfectly fine though.
>>
>>35030123
The rebate is either 75 bucks if you live in an anti state or the ammo+mags+mag loader if you in an normal state.

I like the PPS M2 better (also 100 dollar rebate), but if you want a manual safety you don't got many options in NEW single stack 9s. If you have the money I would go with a performance center version though, unless you are set on an apex trigger.

Also, you don't get to choose the rebate. The 75 dollar rebate is only for state with 10+ mag ban. It doesn't really after the shield, but s&w just put a blanket policy since the rebate covers all m&p guns.
>>
>>35030073
good start, cheap enough you won't regret losing it to the PD and reliable enough that it always will go bang when you need it. If you really can't stand the trigger I can't recommend the Apex trigger enough, I've got them in both of my M&P's.

Don't listen to this idiot about the trigger. While the trigger isn't great it's not the worst ever. If hicock can ring the gong with a stock shield you can put holes through a target at 7 yards.

I'm in the same boat. Always liked the shield alot. went and rented one as well as a glock 26. I had a hard time having a comfy grip on the shield as well as seeing the front sight well.

the glock 26 shot alot better, and alot better grip and could see the sights well . alot more expensive than the shield though.

I really like my shield 9mm. The hinged trigger is a little goofy, but not as bad as some people claim it to be. I'll be dropping in an Apex trigger soon because I think It will be more comfortable for me.

Yeah I called them to make sure. I get the mags and bullets because my state allows it. Still a hell of a deal.

OP, listen to this man >>35031136

do not listen to the thousands of assblasted glock fans

i bought the performance center version (night sights, slightly lighter trigger) w/ a thumb safety because fuck glocklegging myself. also feels WAY comfier in my hand (6'4", 230) than a g43 even with the extension

amazing gun
