It's to make up for his relatively poor eyesight, hence his code name "Snake Eyes"

Usually bring overqualified means writing your name on the test in pencil, instead of eating the delicious crayons.
>>

No. But it's a top excuse for some.

Really the military isn't for all. Don't wanna do it, don't need the benefits because you were born privileged? Then don't join, your the guy everyone will hate anyways.

Still, some of our best did, including the majority of US presidents, austronauts, and so forth.
>>
>>35029112
no one can keep him in one place long enough to promote him.
>>
Being overqualified for something means that you've gone in for a lower position than what you're capable of doing.

There are plenty of Majors doing Captains jobs. The US Army in particular seems really eager to promote guys and make them do tasks that should really be done by a JNCO.

No, but they will deny you a section leader position and put in someone who doesn't know jack shit so they can get more experience. You'll end up having to unfuck everything that person does and they will get all the credit and the leadership will stick you on bullshit extra duty and the entire field op gets fucked up by that retard and then it comes out that you had been trying to teach them and they didn't give a shit and do what they want but they won't remove that person from that position because said person just starts crying racism and similar shit so he doesn't go have to take your place helping the cooks while you unfuck the entire POC.

wrong. if you read the origin story he served in Vietnam with Stalker and Storm Shadow on a LRRP. When he came home from Nam his parents and twin sister were killed in a car wreck coming to pick him up, and he went to Japan and joined Storm Shadows family ninja clan.He came back to the US and became a recluse before getting recruited into GI Joe when it was being formed. So that break in service would account for the E5 rank.

Dear OP,

I'm a 40-something American who remembers buying these figures (or having my parents buy them to be accurate), and you've just given me a little time warp to some of my favorite childhood memories.

I remember cutting out the cards and saving the flag points for mail in offers.

I used to buy the weapons kits, as even as a kid I liked to stockpile guns, and make sure that my toys had back ups, or mission specific gear.

I think I had everyone of these figures except firefly, and he was one of the coolest figures they ever made.

Thank You,

Yo Joe

There was a lot of rank deflation in the writing. A whole lot of E3 and E4 characters. The character files and the original comic run were written by Larry Hama who is a Vietnam vet. And back then for Army SF it wasn't unusual to have E4s on ODAs and the ODA XOs were 1LTs instead of Warrants.

Pretty much every character would be around E6 and all the officers would be O3 and up. There would also be a lot more CWOs.

Generally better informed on most topics and more politically involved. Combine that with an ability to rationalize radical behavior or thoughts, or in the case of religious cults beliefs that don't fit reality, due to intelligence and education and you have a person in a part of their life who is ripe for recruitment/radicalization.

For example, engineers are significantly over represented in terrorist groups compared to the population in general (something like ~40% compared to less than 10%). Medical doctors are also significantly represented in terrorist groups. And this goes not just for bomb makers and medics, but also in leadership positions. There is also a significant representation of religious education at the post secondary level.

For Aum Shinrikyo, for instance, most members were very successful business men, scientists, doctors, and lawyers who had attended some of the best university programs in Japan.

Hama (the comic creator/main writer) wrote most if not all of the info cards. It was his way of keeping track of all the characters and how they would react to situations since he tied most of them to people he knew. Plus he really like to put off the wall shit in the comic/cards since Hasbro had no idea what most of it was or what was normal

Here in Brazil its very hard to become a officer. Very tough knowledge tests (math, phisics, languages etc..) and also very hard fisical tests. The airforce is specially hard, but they do pay for your studies. Many doctors start their career as army/navy/airforce doctors, until they have money to open their own clinic. People do get overqualified eventually, but if you stay in military you wont be seem as someone stupid here. My dad is a Prosecutor of the Army. He is as respected as civil judges/prosecutors.

>Soldiers of the World were pretty awesome though.

They were. Quality wise 21st Century Toys was far better, but Formative Intl/SOTW covered a lot of different eras extensively that Hasbro and 21C avoided, like the Revolution, Civil War, WWI, and Korea. Including making opposition uniforms and figures.

They also amped up in quality towards the end of retail 1/6 scale toys with a bunch of really good Vietnam and GWOT sets.

Snake Eyes strikes me as a guy who probably racks up NJPs while in garrison. NBever anything that can get him discharged or seriusly incarcerated, but definitely enough to keep him from making the list.

Probably the only thing that keeps him from being booted for having too much time-in-grade is that he's no longer actually IN the army (G.I. Joe are a multinational force).
>>
>>35084905
>(G.I. Joe are a multinational force).

The way they were originally written was as an analogue to 1st SFODD. Which is why most of the characters were Army. IIRC all of the characters were Army until they introduced Gung Ho in the toyline like three years after it started.

Not a lot of people are going to pay $20 each for SOTW. IIRC they weren't even that much retail and they aren't the highest quality. So they're pretty niche.

Most 1/6 collectors that don't want them specifically because of what they are have moved on to the current 1/6 market.

Well Cobra commander is a used car salesman and most higher up cobras are business partners and office workers...cobra has a deep lore as a grass roots domestic terroist organisation.

Think of Cobra being able to be so cunning and clever that they control both alt left and alt right violence, their terrir cells are able to adapt and cater to various different fringe groups and not only appeal to them, but make them work with each other.

So inagine if you will a riot where antifa is clashing with neo nazis and the cops are just standing down so national guard get called in, but when they show up, the antida and neo nazis drop their regular flags and reveal cobra symbols and the cops are also cobra members and they all encircle the national guard.

Honestly lawyers and accountants would make great terrorists. You have someone who can generally navigate the law and someone who can find and keep track of financing.

The latter is literally an actual terrorist "job" and someone within a given cell and/or organization that you would be attempting to track (the financier). The financier even has their own little default icon in Analyst Notebook.
