fight scene choreography

I'm here to watch a movie about war, death, and destruction. Men wearing tutus, dancing ballet, and standing up after getting backs/legs/knees broken to pad out the fight scene really doesn't do it for me.

Overly dramatic death scenes
>"M-make sure you *cough cough* take care of my boys back home and t-tell my wife, I love her"

Pretty sure someone with severe gunshot wound trauma won't be coherent enough to say some sappy shit like that. Probably just would be screaming and coughing up blood. The worst example of this recently was Brad Pitt in Fury. Motherfucker took 3 8mm mauser rounds to center mass and was still able to give some dramatic speech. Nigga, you'd be fucked up.

They probably wouldn't even be screaming unless shock or adrenaline didn't take place. Most of the footage you'll listen to/watch, people will mainly moan and breathe heavily until they're gone.

>Every American GI is a disgusting, crude, nigh subhuman, clinically retarded brute that eats shit off the ground, wants to rape everything he sees, hates his country and his flag and whines incessantly about how mean ol' evil America took him from his home to make him fight a coward's war.

The second group usually also classifies their films as "gritty" and "realistic."
There's never any normal people who love being American but also would really like to stop with this dying shit and go home soon, please.
>>
>>35025026

>Gritty

Fuck I hate that word. 9/10 times when a film is described as gritty there's a totally unnecessary rape scene or someone getting tortured/maimed in a brutal and exaggerated gory fashion out of some bullshit 'muh depths of human suffering and wickedness."

It's one thing if it's relevant to the plot, like Mel Gibson getting tortured at the end of Braveheart or the D-Day scene in Saving Private Ryan, but the annoying cutaways where

>"Protag does X thing and talks to Y supporting character"
>Dissolve effect, new landscape slow camera right to introduce figures
>Someone's getting ass-invaded or disembowled
>Camera moves past them to follow character that walked by, who is actually relevant to the scene

Usually the lack of characterization among the protagonists.
When I think war films I think films where a close knit group loses good friends.
Not one where I'm supposed to care that the generic Chad died in slow motion with orchestral themes playing, when his only lines of dialogue were just a check list of cliches.
I'm not sure if lack of character development is a "trope" but fuck it annoys me. It's kinda difficult to be invested in a situation where people don't act human and you don't care about their fate.

Also >>35023955
when characters take rounds like they're nothing even after adrenaline wears off it gets to me. Especially when they're shot in the fucking shoulder of all places and are two handing a rifle like nothing happened a scene later.

>>35024045
Watch this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056062/
It has a chilling twist on that trope that you'd probably like. I don't want to spoil it but it was the most memorable part of the film aside from the ending.
>>
>>35024276
A lot of what sells the scene in Strangelove is in the camerawork. It's shot like newsreel footage, from the camera's constant movement to the way to focuses on things in the scene.
>>
>follow main protagonist into boot camp
>meet everyone is dickish, selfish, and/or out of shape
>eventually they become a fighting machine who can do anything and are all besties
>this takes the first 45 minutes of the film
>At some point in the war protagonist says supporting characters are 'muh bruthr', typically closer to the end
I'd like a film where one soldier is just whatever, can make a joke or shoot the shit but isn't hard for their squadmates, but not like the 'I've seen too many recruits die to learn to grow attached' rompt

>inb4 soldiers are trained to work together well

It's the existential bit afterwards that's hard. For me, the problem was that it was easy and at the time I felt nothing in particular about it. That, in turn, began to color my interactions with people and my view of myself. The social conventions, the morality that holds together modern life, seemed bleak and false. Life lost some of its value.

Different for all of us I suppose. First guy I shot cqb, two rounds center chest. He had an old Russian looking 9mm pointed at me. I popped him and he just looked me with disbelief. His arm dropped. He backed into the wall, slid down, and then just sort of slumped over. That look on his face though. That stuck with me. Like he didn't think I'd actually shoot, or he thought he'd be the hero. Like he never even entertained the possibility of failure. Total shock that he'd been hit. Didn't say a word. Just gasped for air once or twice. Then that IED that went off near a market. A few dead civs splattered across the street. Real confirmation that men and women are just meat. You can be walking, talking, thinking and then one day.... it just.... stops. You're meat just falls apart. Rot. That's it. Nothing special about anyone or anything really.

That's exactly what I mean.
I shot a man who wasn't shooting at me. He was shooting at others, but he never saw me before he died (I don't think). You're right about the rot. About meat. But it also shocked me how easily I took out the problem, and how artificial the sanctity of life really is. Sure, I never thought God would strike me down for sinning, but... I didn't realise it could be so easy. That's what made it so hard.
I'm out now, and I hope I never have to so much as flash a gun at anyone ever again. I live in a pretty safe place, and I only own a couple of long guns for use on paper. There's something about pistols and concealed carry I just don't like any more.

And Kubrick also prodcued the best movies of the 20th century. Say what you will about the man but he produced damn good movies. Now we have fags like Michael Bay who produce shit over and over. Kubrick produced quality over quantity.

He was slated to direct AI before he died but Spielgberg took over. Imagine how much better that movie would have been if he was at the helm. It wouldn't have sucked ass.

The man CAN produce some fantastic films, Barry Lyndon and Paths of Glory come readily to mind as does the aformentioned FMJ and Dr. Strangelove, but he's NOT a perfect director. He's not even a consistenly GOOD director. What he is, is a genius who's reach quite often exceeeds his grasp.

I hate it, when in a WWII movie 90% of the cast (especially germans) uses submachine guns.
I mean, it's an international sin, both western and soviet cinema suffers from it.
I can understand if main heroes are commandos or recons of some sort and they use only SMGs and handguns (Zvezda, Dirty Dozen, Where Eagles Dare). But when a group of germans is armed mostly with SMGs, that's stupid.

Complete shitshow where everyone is running around in woodland camo and ncb gear expecting heavy resistance from "the 4th largest army in the world" but it turns out the first contact with american tanks, infantry, and airpower completely buckled the incompetent dune coon army so besides taking a few potshots from snipers and mag dumping into a hillside before you called in artillery your whole division sits at it's objective with their dicks in their hands facing no resistance until a few weeks later bagdahd falls.

Checked, but obviously I have not. I didn't know what part of that whole greentext you took issue with, and you still haven't explained yourself.

I'm going to guess that you think the movie is bad, but you haven't explained why either. I don't even know what it's about besides being related to the thread topic of war movies.
>>

Just got done watching it. Was good, Battle of Crater was frightening being honest.
Ruby was my favorite bit surprisingly. Was surprised to see a Native fella serving with Confederates but I do not doubt it happened.

Hate to point this out but OP wanted movie tropes we hate, not what isn't real or is real.

I didn't imply at all that it is common for servicemen to get cheated but that all movies with that trope of looking at your girlfriend's picture is bothersome. Rarely do they ever show a soldier that gets cheated on during deployment. It's a drawn out movie trope I dislike, so sue me for having an opinion to give to OP. I'm sure in your own secluded little world, only your thoughts matter and everyone else can't be allowed to have different experiences/dislikes.

Oh no, it's not bad. It, shall we say, leaves a lasting impression on the viewer.

If it's a vital part of one of your (the anon who posted) best nights, you either lead a dire life or there's something wrong with you.

It's a brutal, gruesome movie. Very much like war.

I am gonna say that if you get along with someone as a civvie you'll get to know them damn well after you spend 36 hours a day with them.

But movies play that shit up way too much, the military is as cliquey as any other job where humans are involved. Even at the platoon level

Fuck you motherfucker I do whatever I goddamn want. I'll go find a goddamn beehive and play my 3rd grade recorder to charm those little bastards into slicking my naked body with fresh honey. That's what freedom is, open a fucking book sometime and read about it. You don't even fucking know me I'll dive right into whatever I like and maybe I don't care if I'm covered in honey I'll slip my sticky ass under my brand new covers and blankets I bought fresh off the Wal-Mart shelf.

You can't do shit about it you fucking communist read it and wheep I'll even spell words wrong too, sieze taht emans of production, comrade. Nobody tells me what to do in my own goddamn house if I want to dip my brush in my own piss because I hate the feeling of toothpaste on my teeth I can and I goddamn will it's fucking sterile. I'll scream the rockets red air and bombs bursting in air and get a big, thick handful of fresh dirt and slather it in everything and make a big fucking mess fuck you it's my house this is AMERICA.

I'm not even american so don't get started on muh slavery. The confederates are objectively more aesthetic and In my opinion more interesting, okay.

If you let SOF start responding to "terrorist activity" it's only a matter of time until politicians label their political opponents terrorists.

It had like two scenes set during a Civil War battle. One of those two scenes is arguably one of the best battle scenes ever filmed on screen.
The rest is a romance and wandering around the South meeting strange folks.

its also completely missing the point of the movie because you aren't supposed to see them shooting prisoners and such as a good thing.

>German anti-tank crews missing Shermans rolling into a straight line over and over
>Plot armour on Pitt's Sherman is so good that it bounces rounds and takes minor damage
>SS attack the Sherman carrying anti-tank weapons but don't bother using them until they take massive casualties.

My Granddad watched the film and he served in 44/45 as artillery and anti-tank and he said in reality the German crews would have killed them really fast.

Two things, one, please tell me where that pic related is from I can never get sauce for it. Two, I have to say you were gentler about that than I'd be.

I mean it's not something you can use in casual conversation, but I think with the amount of vets, civilian contractors, and just everyone involved with military stuff it would absolutely catch on if you could like other terms. Or just vocabulary in general, I literally heard a for-sure never ever served person say "mission effective" in a corporate world context.

A decade of war/occupation of other countries is going to bleed into popculture a bit.
