When I think war films I think films where a close knit group loses good friends.
Not one where I'm supposed to care that the generic Chad died in slow motion with orchestral themes playing, when his only lines of dialogue were just a check list of cliches.
I'm not sure if lack of character development is a "trope" but fuck it annoys me. It's kinda difficult to be invested in a situation where people don't act human and you don't care about their fate.

Have any if you seen Paschendaele? It's a WW1 movie about the battle of the same name but it's got a really shitty romance plot and unnecessary Christ symbolism. That being said, the close quarters shit towards the end was really good imho, there were Krauts and Leaves struggling to beat each other to death in the mud with rocks, fists, and helmets.

I strongly suggest everyone to watch old yugoslavian ww2 movies. They're sometimes cringy (but most old films are) equipment is what they could scrap together after the war and bit of subtle post-war heroism. But they're quite accurate, and surprisingly germans aren't hurr nazis

I'd definitely recommend it. The Battle of the Crater sequence alone makes it worth the watch. It's a whirlpool of confusion and death at close range in a Hellish landscape clouded by smoke and dust. One one of the best combat scenes ever done on film.

If only we could get someone to do Bloody Angle, that would be truly an amazing piece of work.

I hate it, when in a WWII movie 90% of the cast (especially germans) uses submachine guns.
I mean, it's an international sin, both western and soviet cinema suffers from it.

I mean it's not something you can use in casual conversation, but I think with the amount of vets, civilian contractors, and just everyone involved with military stuff it would absolutely catch on if you could like other terms. Or just vocabulary in general, I literally heard a for-sure never ever served person say "mission effective" in a corporate world context.

A decade of war/occupation of other countries is going to bleed into popculture a bit.
