Electromechanical Works Podolsk unveiled the first non C&C Russian 4x4 vehicle in a long time, the Samnum at the 2017 Armada Convention.
It's armed with 2 automatic ZU-23 / 30M1-4 guns and is manned by a crew of 3. It's purpose is to hit flying targets with a range of up to 2,5km.
It's max speed is 160km/h and has an autonomy of 1000km. It weighs 6,5 tons.

So the real question is, why the fuck did they decide to make 4x4 vehicles again?
>>
>>35020773
Why not? 4x4s are great, and they alredy use tons of 4x4s

this is very useful for fire support and for airborne troops imo
>>
Nothing wrong with light 4x4 just never ever use them in COIN. 160km/h speed implies that this brick has decent powerplant witch translates to good mobility on and off road if everything else is decent enough.

This technical would be good part of mobile infantry giving them some cheap organic AA capability and fire support against light vehicles. Honestly it really has no point in Russian army they already have superior vehicles for that role.
>>
>>35020934
guess its for VDV
>>
>>35020773
I'm pretty sure their just making upgraded technicals for the Syrian army, and calling it "AA" .

Damn right they do
>>
>>35020942
Now that makes sense. Now that I think about it current VDV analogues are either garbage, require special (and unreliable) insertion or EOL as they were made in the 70s.

vdv analogues are mosty gaz-66s with te sam zu-23 guns

No torq figures? I refuse to believe that brick hits 140 with backwind with just 200hp (I assume) diesel engine.

No, it implies the Russians are lying about the capabilities of their equipment. Again.

This thing is probably not for Russian use. They design this for Middle-East countries. If it was Russian it would have Igla-S.

Well it's an AA platform, so seeing that it will generally engage air targets instead of ground, mobility isn't as important to survivability. If a ground vehicle gets hit by another ground vehicle, the ability to move afterwards to escape can be important. But if an aircraft hits and damages a ground vehicle, you probably won't escape by driving away, and driving away may actually make things worse if the aircraft in question has doppler radar with GMTI.
>>
>>35022030
It depends on the environment, no? If you can speed away under a canopy of trees, around a fit block of two, even make a mini dust storm by erratic desert driving, you can evade an aircraft i think. No mil experience here, just logic.

It's a Tiger platform. Best selling Russian 4x4 car since Lada Niva. If there is a market demand on Tiger with a giant dragon dildo that shoots Mountian-Dew, they will build it in three different colors and provide cherry coke as an additional option.

None of those will defeat radar. Most won't even defeat thermals in the hands of a well-trained operator. Odds are it'll only attract even further attention.

exact thing, why the russians decided to implement technicals with steady platforms for the SAA.

Frankly, considering the sort of fight happening in Syria right now, you would not need superlative fire-on-the-move super weapons that the Syrian army probably can't maintain in any significant number any more ; cheap, rugged fire support that can be maintained and stay indefinitely on the frontline is the way to go. If you want to make it stand head and shoulders above what ISIS and co have, you'd rather go with solid communications for the gun crew to be able to react quickly, if possible access to GLONASS or GPS (does GLONASS even work anyway?), and decent optics, if possible with night capability, with range finder for the first burst to be accurate and on target.
>>
>>35027546
Think of them as creating cordons of fire that aircraft have to avoid. This channels the aircraft into the path of your SAMs.
>>
>>35027546
Pretty sure that the AA part of it is a secondary role, main role would probably be fire support.
>>
>>35020773
>So the real question is, why the fuck did they decide to make 4x4 vehicles again?

I guess they plan to fight in deserts again after Syria.

the heavy use of drones makes high-ROF radar-directed AAA more viable than it's been in 40 ears or more. No one, not even Russians, expects this platform to take on fast movers.

also does for fire support in a pinch, I'd imagine a 30-40 round burst of 23x152mm would chew through troops in all but the heaviest of cover and fuck up any vehicle short of an MBT.
