Speaking from experience, yes and no. If people break it but hide it, you're in just as deep of shit when you get caught. If people openly break it in front of law enforcement but don't get arrested for it, then you'll be too until you give an officer or a politician a reason to dislike you a little bit. Just a soccor mom who saw you with it in a Facebook picture someone took and reports you in an area where the police do care will get you locked up.

The only way to safely have it and not get screwed is to legalize it. An exception is only made if you and a sizeable part of the country will kill anyone trying to enforce it which will not happen. I won't kill for it to be legalized and neither will anyone else so you have to lobby for it.

I just picked up a Norinco M14, and while reassembling it after cleaning I noticed that the op-rod and gas piston don't quite line up. Not sure how well you can see it in the pic but the end of the rod seems to be leaning a bit to the right and not sitting flush with the piston. I'm fairly certain I put everything together correctly and couldn't seem to get it to line up properly. Is this something I should worry about or something minor? I haven't fired it yet but from what I can tell it's still lined up enough for the piston to properly push against the rod so it should still cycle.

chances are, your barrel is over or under indexed, common with the rifles. see if your front sight is pushed all the way out to the left or the right when looking down sights.

in an M305 you basically pay for the forged receiver that would cost 1500 alone, and more if you bought an American made one, with all the other parts attached optionally and hopefully functioning fine together, as they do in 99% of the cases, despite the ugly QC oversights.

go on YouTube and see if you can do an M14 tilt test (remove recoil spring, lube and reassemble, see if it will slide open and shut from just tilting the rifle 30 degrees or so, or if there is binding) if it doesn't fail it, should be fine, can't expect perfect center alignment on a Norc
also, if the gas piston is a bit sticky, doesn't fall out of the gas assembly super-easy, that's a good thing.

the op rod guide solution is a pain, do it if you want to suck every bit of accuracy out or a platform that's inherently not a tack driver and will never be, but from what I recall, what you have to do is remove everything off the barrel to get to th guide; then remove guide, knurl the actual barrel and theb hope the fit is tighter, add JB weld or similar and bang it back on. it's a long tedious process with a lot of fuckery that doesn't guarantee a permanent fix anyway

So I did the course and test for my PAL about 6 months ago but I still haven't had a chance to get the paperwork in (wedding, new baby, new job, ect), does anyone know if that paperwork has an expiration date at all? I was hoping to be able to get it mailed out soon
