The primary purpose of a chromed barrel is preserving barrel life under sustained rapid fire. Corrosion resistance is a bonus. If you don't believe me then ask yourself: Why don't they chrome the gas tube or piston?

Zastava barrels are beefy as fuck. Zastava M70s are some of the most common AKs in some of the worst conflict zones in the world. The only REAL disadvantage of an NPAP over a WASR is the proprietary furniture locking you out of the majority of the AK aftermarket.

Century MAKES the RAS47 and C39 from the ground up.

Century IMPORTS the WASR and NPAP in a legal-to-import configuration, alters them to something more like a military configuration (the biggest change is altering the magazine well to accept double-stack rather than single-stack mags) and puts in a requisite number of US-made parts to make them legal.

The WASR and NPAP are made in the same Eastern European factories as military rifles. Century just sells them in the States.

The RAS47 and C39 are made in Century's facilities for as cheaply as possible and it shows.

NPAPs are made by Zastava as "commercial" grade rifles rather than actual military rifles. This will explain it more thoroughly:

WASRs are pretty much the same as Cugir's military rifles except for being semi-auto. I believe the Romanian national guard is issued semi-auto WASRs. The WASR used to be considered one of the shittiest AKs on the US market, but since Saigas (and now Veprs) are banned, WASRs are actually one of the better options. The only legitimate complaint people ever had about the WASRs was that they sometimes came from the factory with canted front sight posts, but that's not even a problem that's exclusive to WASRs. I have a Vepr that came from the factory like that as well.

As for the thicker receiver being an advantage... It really isn't. All it does it make the rifle that much more annoying to carry. I own Saigas and a Vepr, and the weight difference is like night and day. Remember that this is steel we're talking about, not aluminum. If you're only used to handling ARs, buying a rifle with the "RPK style" receiver will make you hate AKs as a whole.

This issue is unironically the non-meme reason to get a WASR over an NPAP.

I personally opted for M70 handguards and bought a hinge and CNCWarrior triangle. Also put a fatty Bulgy grip (big hands) and M70 safety on it. MUCH better gun than when it came home with me.
Several other parts have also been replaced with surplus M70 equivalents.

However I also tend to take BFLV's data with a grain of salt and try to remember that their AKs are all converted to run full-auto, then magdumped by retards all day erry day until they fall apart. It's less reflective of actual use/battlefield aptitude than something like AKOU's torture tests.

I love when people use this as an example of NPAPs being shit when the reality is that Zastava QC slipped in early 2015 and many of the rifles from that batch have quality control issues. That NPAP failed because the magwell deformed just enough to let the shepherd's crook walk out.

The next rifle Rob tested was the 5000rd torture test and it passed.

I can't wait for "muh heat treat" next even though Mel64D did numerous Rockwell tests on NPAPs (receivers, hammers, BCGs) showing them to be in the same range as other AKs.

I don't disagree with your other points except to say that the NPAP doesn't have an RPK-Style receiver like the OPAP or M70, and the reason the Yugoslavs opted for the thicker receiver was to facilitate grenade launching.

Owning both, here's my two cents on NPAP vs WASR:

NPAPs are better out of the box. The fit and finish is nicer, the trigger is nicer, the action is smoother, but they're not really customizable with the Yugo-pattern side rail and furniture.
WASRs are rougher out of the box and even today you want to inspect it closely for canted sights, gas tube, and malformed rivets - but if you get a good example, they're entirely fine and are almost entirely built to a normal AKM pattern, aside from the lack of magwell dimples.
In other words - Do you want to keep it as-is and shoot it with irons and factory furniture? NPAP
Do you want combloc optics, aftermarket or surplus furniture? WASR

AKOU has videos of a RAS47 BARELY surviving 5000 rounds and going out of headspace doing it (thus becoming a grenade). They're constantly comparing it to a WASR with a 7000rd count and MUCH less internal wear. The NPAP also destroyed said 5000rd test.

The C39 (yes, the v2 as well) is more durable than the RAS only due to the fact that it is milled and thus does not have trunnions. It still uses the same shit barrel, shit furniture, and shitty cast parts. There are also plenty of metallurgy videos demonstrating this (Mel64D on YT is a good source of these).
