I was referring to the current issue carriers in the military, which range from ~25 pounds (IBA) to ~35 pounds (IOTV) WITHOUT AMMO.

There's a video from that guy that killed all those cops in Texas last year where he basically bunkers one of the cops, so there is some utility out of those types of hyper-aggressive tactics. It's super risky though.

And if you're military, you're probably in shape and used to doing a plate carrier run twice a month along side combat focused PT twice a month (aka wearing a plate carrier while doing rope climbs, burpees, sprints, etc).

I picked the IBA because it's the lightest 'current issue' armor in the US military. Whether or not you leave some side plates behind, and whether or not you're a big huge manly man tough guy, your armor, ammo, water, comms, etc are GOING to slow you down and make it harder to maneuver in close quarters.

Not at all. I think smaller squad-sized elements like that would fill a niche. I understand that 99% of military engagements take place well outside of what can be considered 'close quarters,' but when it comes to clearing streets and kicking in doors our current loadouts just aren't very well suited. The concept would probably be better suited for counter-terrorism or police work, where the enemy is likely to be entrenched rather that mobile.

that said, paintball is both just a game but also requires the ability to aim, the abilitiy to move without getting hit, etc.

if i could have a platoon of infantry who were paintball players once versus one who were all not, i'd rather the paintballers. it's a bit of extra running around being able to instinctively identify cover, etc. they're not TRAINED OPER8ORZ but hey, at least theyve handled a gun before, unlike most recruits, and theyve probably been running around from cover to cover while dressed in big puffy plastic armor suits, so i guess they at least have an understanding of hiding from getting shot, and probably have better cardio than i do

Shooting a paintball gun is not shooting experience and as I said, if recruits fitness going into basic has any bearing on your recruits fitness going out then your training is shit. Experience with paintball is simply of questionable value IRL conditions, since they tech you everything you need to know in basic or boot.

I see your point, but the problem is inherently to it being a sport.
You see, in paintball hitting all the other team while not getting completely wipe out is a victory, that is not true in combat, "We killed 10 guys and they only killed 9 of us, so we win!" does not work, normally taking casualties means you are doing something wrong.
There is another BIG point to consider, in paintaball you know the enemy, how many and their general position, same is not true in combat.
That's why painballers can get away with such aggressive and over-mobile tactics, they can take risks that wouldn't be permissible in the military and they got guaranteed info of their opponent.
Closer that comes to mind are the Stormtroopers from WWI, but as you see they have run out of favor.
