Hi, I have a 1938 Kar98K that is all matching and in good condition. I don't think it is Russian capture.
I know lots are fakes are out there but assuming mine isn't, what's it worth? I have it listed for $900 but I'm not sure whether to lower or raise that price.
Here are some pics, if these don't help I can upload more.

The stock looks to be refinished.

U sure? Show me an example of a normal one

I'm not well versed on K98k value but I feel that 900 is too much, though you may get lucky collector wise. However, Florida isn't really a collector state.

>$900
Try $500 to MAYBE $700 if someone is dumb or desperate.

For a genuine, not molestic by bubba at all, average k98 you should expect to see $600-800 retail and $4-500 private sale in my experience. The Yugo made and Russian captures tend to drive prices down for people who just want a mauser to shoot.

I think he is right, the stock does not look right. Might be the light in which you are taking the photos or bubba might have sanded it and refinished it.

You might want to edit in that the "42" code is for Waffenfabrik Mauser in Oberndorf, not for the year 1938. The best place to ask a value for this rifle is the Nazi-era section of the Kar.98k forum:

FWIW, the stock doesn't look refinished to me. Note the sharp, clearly-defined edges of the recess for the bolt handle and slot for the stock. Usually if bubba (especially if bubba) sands and refinishes a stock he will round all these corners off and smooth the edges out because he's not using a sanding block to keep his abrasive surface flat.

the G11940 is the code. Thanks for the link, I agree it doesn't look refinished
