Oh, sweetie.
>>
>>34997971
Because in 2015 and 2016 shit was gone
>>
Shit, I've got like 4krds of .22 but I shoot 300-500 every range trip

It's not hoarding if you actually use it, it's just a stockpile so you don't run out. Also, ordering in bulk online is always better because of shipping costs
>>
>>34997971
Either faggot preppers, scalpers or
>>34998016
This guy. Why the hell do you need to toss an entire box of .22 down range every trip?
>>

Fudd lore.

>22lr deaderliest round eva, boy. Bounce round in yur skull!
>sheet boy, 22lr best SHTF round, need meebee 20,000-30,000 and yer set fer life!
>Obongo Gubment gerrna take mai gunz, ghatta greb all dat der ammo offa da Wah Mhet shelfs and prepa to fight off a Feds wit mai militia buddehs!
>Whut ya mean I kent pay mai rheent in 22lr? Des stuff heere issa good as gold! Ya'll aint right in da head!
>>
>>34997971
22lr is a great round for most everything and is a joy to shoot as a plinker. In terms of why would someone keep over something like 5k rounds? Typically a scalper from the days of when 22lr was nigh unobtainable due to demand outstripping supply by an exponential degree.

What's even worse than that tho is people who bought out 762x54r when the Russia sanctions hit. I saw some tweaker on a phone asking what ammo to buy and when I looked at he ammo he had, he legit flinched and quickly grabbed all the cheap shit off the shelves and booked it.
>>
>>34998063
A box of .22 is like $20/500rds wheras a box of 9mm is closer to $20/50rds?
>>
People used to think it was a get rich scheme. They'd hoard it and plan to sell it marked up. Then the market shifted once the liberals failed to pass any gun legislation. Well Federally anyway, some States went full retard.

It's a better currency than paper bills and gold/silver for when the next war comes.

these two anons have the correct reasons
>>
>>34997971
I bought a lot of .22 lr ( in two meanings) Because there can be differences between batches of ammo. I have about 8k rounds from the same batch of eley.
>>
It's also not as easy to reload as center-fire bullets.
>>
>>34998096
I get what you're trying to illustrate, but unless you're shooting gold bullets, that's not how much 9mm costs.
>>
Why dont they just make 22lr out of steel cases? Its not like rifles are horribly picky and then you can just leave the casings on the ground and let nature take care of them.
>>
>>34997971
On a LARPing level, it's a really good round to have in SHTF because of its popularity. There are so many 22's out there. It's good for hunting varmints and it's quiet so you don't alert people to your presence.
On a realistic level, you can just plink all day and spend very little money overall. It's still good for varmints. You don't even need hearing protection when shooting it.
>>
>>34998162
>bullets more valuable than gold.
Idk about that.
>>
>>34998369
>You don't even need hearing protection when shooting it.

WHAT? I CANT HEAR YOU. SPEAK UP.
>>
Its small, cheap, and useful.
Really no reason not to.
>>
It use to be that buying in bulk saved you money. And people who shoot seriously can blow through it really quick.

Then people stock piled becuase of the scare, either for themselves or to scalp.

Now no one stock piles unless they are dumb retards since it's not plentiful (although still not as cheap as it was)

Having a large round-count for relatively cheap? That's about all I can think of. It's the least bannable round I can imagine, people created their own ammo scare, there's always been plenty of it.
But it really hasn't been very cheap since 2012, seems like a waste to buy 22lr if it's over about 6 cents/round.
After that point, it's more worth it to just buy common steel case centerfire cartridges. I get FAR more fun from $1 of centerfire stuff on average than $1 of 22lr. If my objective is to shoot cheaply or clank spinners, my 22cal pellet rifle does that for borderline nothing.
>>34998016
>Shit, I've got like 4krds of .22 but I shoot 300-500 every range trip
shooting it is not the same as hoarding, not even close
Just don't be this guy. (pic related)
>>34998369
>You don't even need hearing protection when shooting it.
Yes you do. It's not as harsh as some stuff, but you still do need protection.
>>
>>34998529
What are you gay? It's such a quiet round out of a rifle. I'm a pussy an 9mm kills my ears to shoot without ear protection but 22 is basically like a loud clap from 10 feet away.
>>
>>34998953
Also there's subsonic .22 ammo last time I checked.
>>
>>34998426
In a situation where shit truly hits the fan (like, Fallout-level shit), gold loses out to useful goods like food and arms. Gold's value is largely arbitrary, and you can't rely on that to hold up in s pure barter economy.
>>
>>34998063

Because it's fun.
>>
>tfw work retail
>place doesn't sell guns but does sell ammo
>the few times we do get .22 or .223 in it's all sold out by the next day
>meanwhile all the boxes of stuff like 30-06, .308, and 7.62x39 have all been sitting in the ammo case long enough that the boxes are starting to fade and fall apart
>>
>>34998349
Because--hard as it may be for vatniki to believe--steel case is not as good as brass. Brass is more ductile, so it fits the chamber better.
>>
>>34998529
maybe if you're shooting indoors. I've shot my 22 loads outside and no ringing or anything
>>
>>34997971
once upon a time you couldn't find it anywhere. it dried up. now people hoard it in case the bad times come again. mostly reactionary.
>>
Ammo manufacturers were contributing to the shortage; a gun store employee I talked to said that they had a pretty small limit on what the manufacturers would sell at a trade show like two years ago. I'm sure things have since changed, but it wasn't just hoarders buying it all up.
>>
>>34998426
Can you eat gold, Schlomo? Can you defend yourself with it? Using a gold brick as a blunt weapon is not a valid answer.
>>
>>34998162
Yeah, because life is like a Fallout game. You'll be getting into 2, maybe 3 gunfights per day minimum. Better stock up half a million rounds.
>>
>>34999808
Being able to easily harvest varmint can save you from starvation.
>>
>>34999208
Here's your (you)
>>
>>34997971
It's hard to find where I am so I'll pick a few boxes up when I can and stash it for later use.
>>
>>34998953
WHAT? TAKE THE DICK OUT OF YOUR MOUTH ITS HARD TO UNDERSTAND YOU.
>>
>>34997971
During ammo shortages people hoarded it and scalped it like crazy.

For me though it's cheap, fun to shoot, and a there are a wide variety of conversion kits and firearm types that shoot it. If you're stuck in Commiefornia it's also one of the few rounds that aren't easily reloadable so I've been stocking up. Fucking ammo background checks man. What the fuck.
>>
>>34998063
Since you clearly don't shoot much, why don't you buy 1500rds once so you can stfu and be set for the rest of your life. Meanwhile we everyone else is going to enjoy the hobby
>>
>>34997971
>>
>>34998063
.22lr is cheap so you do a lot of shooting with it.
>>
>>34998082
Well I suppose you could be further off the mark, but not by much
>>
>>34998063
I toss 100-200 rounds of .38/.357 down range every week. I'd toss more if it wasn't so expensive. .22 is like a 10th of the cost so I could easily see dumping 500 rounds at each range trip

It's youtubes fault. These fat-fuck white males, who work part time have the time to got to walmart every morning at 0700 and buy all the .22 then boast-post on youtube and gun forums and try to flip it.
It's the same cretins that post banana memes.. for the same reason..
>>
>>34998167

>>34999599
There is a concept called manufacturing capacity.

You can not exceed what you hace the capacity to make.

If there is high dwmand for a product , to meet that demand you can limit the amount everyone can order.

Fill only orders to the top few buyers

Cancel other production runs to free up capicity to make the more in-demand product.

To their credit CCI didnt cut off small venders and still tried to fill orders to them.

They also increased capacity by building a new plant.
>>
Knowing that some father won't be able to spend as much quality time with his kid teaching him how to shoot on an old .22 is pretty appealing
>>
>>34999599
>Ammo manufacturers were contributing to the shortage;
Nah, the ordering limits were there so that people like Cabelas, Bass Pro, and Wal-Mart didn't buy every last possible round.

Now, sometimes distributors would take their throttled orders from manufacturers and then sold everything they got to the store with the fastest ordering process, fucking over the rest of their customers, but the mfgs weren't holding any back.

Cigarettes are the only real post-apocalyptic trade standard
>>
It might have to one day be used not as ammo, but as a type of currency.

People thought they could have infinite ammo b/c .22 was so cheap. Lo and behold, after they started hoarding it .22 became expensive as fuck compared to what is was before.

I buy hard when I can get it for less than 4 cents per round shipped. Its great ammo for plinking and practicing. Cheap as well (at the moment). Make sure I always have 10g laying around now.

Coffee, weed, cocaine, alcohol, ect. Look at any prison economy and add bullets to the list and you have a pretty complete list of shtf currencies.

Its like gold, or gems. You just have to hoard something. Some people hoard junk, some people hoard money, some of us hoard ammunition.

.22lr in particular is just so easy to hoard en masse, and became so much more valuable overnight. such an enticing treasure.
>>
>>35000375
>Let me talk about when 5.45 and tokarev started to get popular
No, not that. Don't make me remember, it hurts to remember.

Its a shame that by the time good DI 7.62x25 ARs and 5.45s came around the end was already on the horizon
