Is China autistic?
>>
No, they're communist.
>>
>>34997794
Seriously wtf China
>>
Serbia in practice still relies on the 7.62x39 round and M70 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
>>
Cheap Chinese knock-offs.

But in all seriousness, China is obsessed with their concept of the Century of Humiliation. This is just their way of getting back their familial honour, becoming top dogs, daddy knows best type bullshit.

Plus, they have no friends to share ammo with anyway.

Is suspect the 5.8 is the "rookie round" for the 5-6mm range of bullets

They probably don't have to take too much time aiming, also keep in mind aside from the center of china it's surrounded by swamps, mountains and jungles, so a round that can penetrate well is required

also probably so that corrupt officers can't sell it off under cover
>>
Wait, the Norks adopted the 5.45x39mm?
When did that happen? I alway thought they stuck with 7.62?
>>
>>34997808
The map was made with most recently adopted main service rifle caliber in mind. If not slovakia would also be red as they still have a lot of vz 58s laying around. The point is Serbia will eventually get to the point where the Zastava M21 is more common and that's the plan as far as I can see.
>>
>>34997830
They have been slowly replacing old 7.62 rifles with locally produced Type-88 and Type-88-1 rifles in 5.45.

>>34997794
Ching chang really only sells their old stuff in soviet era slav calibres for export in terms of small arms. Their local, domestic small arms are actually quite good, modern weapons for the most part and its not really helped them move a lot of exports compared to Russia, the US or other competitors.
>>
>>34997945
How are you inferring that from the article?

It has similar performance and is only 7.5% heavier in bullet weight.

export what? AKs? M-series? Alot of those dime by the dozen arms have already penetrated most militaries, many countries have copied small arms designs and then made their own versions.

Anyone-
>who is looking to modernise
>with a doctrine change
>in a screaming shitfight war

Old shit is always problematic to hook up modern accessories so if you get a doctrine change where say, every faggot is now going to have some kind of sight or scope on their gun. You can faff around with modifications, custom made rail mounts, spot welders... but ultimately its lipstick on a pig and a lot of fucking around. Just give us new shit, which is better than the old shit and we can do what we want with modern stuff.
Plus if its cheaper per unit than an AK or M# competitor = yeah!

Also if you are in that proverbial shitfight, you lose guns in warfare. Any time there's a casualty, chances are there's also a primary weapon out of commission. They get lost, blown up, stolen, bent and broken. That can be a real issue for some countries where a gun is still less common than a pair of hands.

Why is Switzerland somehow blue and has a black dot?
>>
>>34998394
That's for Liechtenstein the micro-nation between Switzerland and Austria.
>>
>>34998394
The black dot is Liechtenstein.
>>
>>34998411
>>34998412
Well then it should be "blue"
They use 5.6 just like Switzerland
>>
>>34998442
Liechtenstein doesn't have a military so black.

Also from the wiki on swiss ammo "The Swiss refer to the round as the 5.6 mm Gw Pat 90, although it is interchangeable with the 5.56×45mm NATO and .223 Remington"
>>
>>34997802
Wait, I thought NATO used the 9x19 Parabellum as its 9mm round, not the Luger. Or are they the same thing and I just wasn't aware?
>>
>>34997794
The Chinese claim ti is ballistically superior to the 5.56, and it very could be, given that it was designed decades later. Any advantage would likely be minimal though, as well as any disadvantage. The chinks manufacture basically every caliber known to man commercially, so there's no reason to think that they would insist on using their own unique round if it wasn't comparable to their foes.
>>
>>34998487
The 9mm parabellum was designed by Georg Johann Luger and is commonly referred to by both names, as well as '9mm NATO', although technically NATO denotes a specific 124gr loading.
>>
>>34998477
Liechtenstein doesn't have a standing military as it's only drafted in times of war. Switzerland is supposed to be in charge of it but it's not stationned there. The swiss police also help them

It's interchangeable because the barrel accepts 5.6 and 5.56 is smaller. A 5.56 barrel is not made to shoot 5.6 on the contrary.

This is a stupid meme that needs to die. 5.6mm is the same as 5.56x45mm, the Swiss just label it differently. I've shot .223 through a Stgw 90 and GP90 through various 5.56mm guns.

It's to minimize compatibility, any potential enemy invading China would not be able to use any battlefield pickup, or capture any useful stores of ammunition. It's why 5.8mm rounds aren't exported even though Chinese guns are exported to New Zealand, Canada. It's sort of the opposite doctrine of Finland.

I like westerners spreading disinformation about China, but this is just too stupid. Just keep this horseshit in /pol/.

no. it has to do with control. their snowflake rounds are only made in China and can't be smuggled in to help arm any group working against the government that would aquire their guns locally. I remember some anon posted a article about some Chinese police gun that used some bizaro round and would basically blow itself apart after maybe 100 rounds. This was done incase someone stole the gun from the police and tried to use it against the government in combat.

>I've shot .223 through a Stgw 90 and GP90 through various 5.56mm guns.

That's a really stupid thing to do. GP90 puts more pressure on the barrel than .223. The barrel of a Sig 550 is designed to support this additional pressure on contrary of a standard .223 rifle.

This is why you have two versions of the commercial Sig 55x (550, 551, 552, 553). A 55x-1 version intended for GP90 and a 55x-2 version intended for .223 remington.
Shooting .223 with a Sig 55x-1 is a non-issue. In contrary it is not recommended to shoot GP90 through a 55x-2 or any 5.6 swiss gun.

No you dumbass, the versiosn have different rifling. All that'll happen if you use the "wrong" ammo is that you'll be less accurate at 300m.
Why do you insist on spreading stupid urban myths??

GP90 is just regular 63gr match ammo, the SG55x-1 series have the 1:7 rifling to support it. You can fire it through any gun that takes 5.56x45 and vice versa.

Sig 55X rifles are made to CIP specs and the CIP considers 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington to be the same cartridges.

>Your not disproving what he said though
He said it was a stupid idea to put .223 through a Sig 550, which is not true. Additionally, as mentioned, .223 and 5.56 are identical cartridges under CIP specifications. There is no risk in shooting .223 out of a 5.56 or vice versa.

Under SAAMI specs they list the .223 as operating at a lower pressure than a 5.56, but even then, there is no issue shooting .223 out of a 5.56 rifle. Additionally, since the chamber specifications are nearly identical between NATO and SAAMI specs, firing a 5.56 out of a .223 chamber, while operating at higher pressures than a .223, still remains within 5.56 max operating pressures.

Regarding the 550, the only difference between the issued rifles and export ones is the rate of twist, otherwise they are identical.
