It's made so slow mostly on purpose because the main point is to keep the rocket and its gantry perfectly vertical and that is much easier to do when going slow as fuck.
Put a stronger power plant in there and it will move faster (provided, you'll also have to change stuff that was made with the speed limits in mind but most parts don't have a reason to).

I suppose you could put a lawn chair an a beach umbrella on top. Add a Coleman cooler, now you got your base. Put somebody with a 10/22 up there. He sits in the lawn chair, listens to music and shitposts. Once an hour, he makes a round about the upper deck. If he spots a threat, he shoots at it until the threat is either neutralized or out of range. I guess it wouldn't hurt to give him a pallet of .2lr. The good stuff, CCI or something. Really though, I think an NSWR-based laser or automatic multi-use casaba-howitzer contraption would be a pretty cool idea for a capital ship space vessel's main gun. Nice to use the same fuel as the engines.

I don't know about a runway, but a mobile artillery/helicopter/radar/long range SAM would probably do.

basically 2 howitzer batteries in the back, 5 helicopter platforms on deck, a giant radar in the middle and several vls for something like the SS-400 while still leaving space for ammo, spareparts and fuel so you can have maybe 50-80 soldiers combate ready, 40 POGs and 15 COs doesn't seem like such an horrendous idea.

Its like the logical extreme of an integrated combat system, solve the parts of autonomy(with a nuclear reactor), need for flat terrain and basically being a giant noisy target and you get a way to have 3-5 FOBs in one compact package.

If I were a sci-fi writer I would surely make a mercenary group similar to hammer's slammers but with exactly this.
