The point of the screw in scabbard was to keep water from getting into the cavity the blade rested in. This is a decorative knife. Some of you might know this as a E. W. Stone Knife Grip. The Story is E. W. Stone Sr was a sailor on the USS Holland, and one day he got his hands on a Mitsubishi planes aluminum props, so he designed these grips. He did not make many grips or knives in WWII. The knife you see here, made with a bayonet blade is one he made for his son who went to Vietnam long after WWII.

The "nobody wins in a knife fight" meme is overdone, if you just stab blindly at each other and don't defend yourself sure, like with a gun if you carry a knife for self defense take some lessons on how to use it for that. Also just the fact you have the knife might surprise a would be attacker and make them decide to choose another victim.and carrying a knife in general is useful and potentially life saving in dozens of other non self defense situations so why not carry one viable to use in a fight as well as for edc tasks.
