good doubles are expensive. I heard old stevens 311's are good used double barrels, but those are probably near that price. I was at the gunshop yesterday and they had some $200ish doubles from some of the more odd manufacturers, but they were in kinda rough shape so I passed.

Cause killing waterfowl one by one is more annoying, duck hunt wasn't that realistic now.
>>
>>34994455
Anything bigger than 10 gauge you can't hunt with.

10 gauge has its niche with waterfowl hunting.

20 gauge still seems pretty common as a lighter load that's still usually sufficient.

Other gauges just fell out of use since so much can be done by 12 and 20.

.410 is for kids and meme revolvers
20ga is for smaller people or those that are recoil sensitive or whatever

(as you can tell I don't really know much or care about those)

12 gauge will do most about anything, you got everything from mini shells, to 2 3/4 target loads, to 3 1/2 super magnum turkey loads.

>by your logic I should refuse to pay anything less than a hundred thousand dollars for a Glock because the frame is polymer

what?
>hur hur it has a $1000 msrp
>I don't know what street price is
Double barrel shotguns are expensive items to properly make, turks or chinks can put them together for less than $500, but it doesn't mean they will last.

>by your logic I should refuse to pay anything less than a hundred thousand dollars for a Glock because the frame is polymer
literally what? I am saying the exact opposite. Double barrel shotguns are complicated to make, AR's and glocks aren't.

Wrong answer.
Migratory bird treaty.
To limit the use of punt guns and widescale destruction of flocks a treaty was signed across NA limiting hunting of migratory birds to 10 gauge and smaller.
As the NFA exempts shotguns from the DD regulations if they have sporting purpose anything over 10 gauge can be a DD. Commonly they are simply exempted on a case by case basis as they are more commonly used for recreational target shooting and big game hunting.

Are you taking your ferrous sulfate 325mg tablets, or do you need regular iron infusions? Has your hematologist discerned the cause?
>>
>>34994877
>>34994943

No trolling. AR-15s are modular and can be cranked out by machines with basically no fitting required.

Double barrels require tons of hand fitting and barrel regulation to make sure they both hit the same spot. They are also less in demand, so it costs more money to make them. And doubles have wood stocks which cost much more than molded polymer.

tl;dr doubles require more work to make, so they cost more
>>
>>34995032
Not well.
Too unwieldy and hard to use. They were typically lashed to the bow of the boat and used to shoot ducks and geese resting on the water. Simply too heavy and large to use effectively for anything else.

>Double barrels are 1800s tech
exactly
Go look up a holland and holland video and see what kinda of work goes into making a double barrel. Obviously it's not the best example since those are hand made guns, but the general idea of it still applies. All the small complex parts, making stocks, inletting. Things like fixing 2 barrels together, without damaging either of them and managing to make them impact in the same location is time consuming. And they are obsolescent technology, there is a reason everyone makes pump action shotguns now instead of double barrels.

AR's are all interchangeable, and easier to manufacturer.

>>
>>34994470
that's stupid because:
1.the gun isn't designed to handle that kind of recoil/ pressure on a regular basis
2. hope you land that fist shot cause you aren't going to get a follow up.
3. most new double trigger guns have a safety that wont let you pull them both at the same time because of the first point i mentioned. you can pull them really fast one after the other which will put a auto-loader to shame in the ROF department but its going to make your aim shit due to the retarded amount of recoil all double barrels have since they don't have moving parts to dampen it.

old Stevens 311 is the correct answer.

There a milliuons out there, hanging out in grandpa's closet. As a South Carolinian, I have lost count of the stevens 311's I've seen growing up. They were basically available at every Sears and hardware store, and as common as 10/22's are to this generation.

My bad I thought I was still in the black powder thread, not the shotgun thread.

There is a lot of small things with doubles so I can't really say much without looking at it in person. I'm not really qualified to say what a good one is and what a bad one is from pictures.

The locking lever is still facing to the left, so thats good, when they get worn they start to creep to the right. With doubles you have to check the firing pins, the firing pin holes, lock up, how the forend fits, if there is any bulges in the barrels, if the barrels have worked free from the solder at the front or back, or if the top rib is lose, if the extractors work etc. Also if the wood has gotten soft or developed cracks from oil seepage from the receiver.

The description says model 1900, so it's iffy. The winchester 1897 was the product improvement of the 1894, the 97 was made to be able to use smokeless. It so close in time though that I would ask a fourm specializing in doubles about them. From what I just read, that some might have had steel barrels, and others had damascas, damascas is what has issues with smokeless from what I have heard. Something with the stampings on the gun indicates that K for remington steel and KD for damascas afaik. I heard they are 12 gauge, but might be an odd shell length, but I doubt that is too much of an issue since handloading shotshells is a thing. Definitely not a 3 or 3 1/2 chamber, those are only more recent things.

It looks in fairly decent shape, buying a used sXs without seeing it, at like $550 with it being from 1900 is iffy at best. I'd probably try to find a newer one like a stevens 311

Like I said, I'd go ask a fourm specializing in sXs's and O/U's since they know more about that.

>>34999778
I'm in NE and there is about fuck all for 311's, think I might have seen one in a shop, seen a few on armslist. Same with used sXs's in general really in my area at least.
