Who here does Muzzleloader hunting and why?
One of my coworkers wants us to get these for hunting this season along with rifle.
Id prefer bow.
What benefits is there with the ML hunt and how fun are they to practice with?
I have that exact rifle, but with a scope (pic related). It's a lot of fun to shoot, but requires more work and caution than a modern rifle. It'll teach you a lot about shooting - especially about how to be patient and careful. All in all, I really like mine.

Hmm, out here in WA its iron sights only so going after Elk at Mt St Helens seems like quite the challenge with that.

Man, the biggest fudds on planet earth were baby boomer black powder mountain man wannabes out west. They gave y'all some of the dumbest, most arbitrary bp hunting laws I have ever heard of.
I live in a shotgun only area and modern muzzleloaders pretty much are on par with modern rifles performance where I hunt with sub 100yd shots.

I've done it a few times.
>benefits over bow
A good inline with good sabots and a tuned load is hunting-accurate to 300 yards while retaining enough power to kill anything on the continent at those distances. They slightly outrange even the best of the sabot shotgun slugs through a dedicated slug gun like the Savage 212/220.
They also have their own season in a lot of places, prolonging your big-game hunting. Where I live it goes bow-->rifle-->"alternative methods" which includes shotgun slug, bows, crossbows, muzzleloaders, and handguns, and I'd rather hunt with a handgun than a muzzleloader.
