Is he legit or a pseud with lots of opinions?

He's been wrong a few times, but he generally does his research.

damnit, just damnit
>>
Either wiki-tier or pseud, literally the only worthwhile thing he has is contacts who let him field strip rare stuff before auctions
>>
>>34992435
Absolutely an expert and you'd be hard pressed to find a better one with as wide of a body of knowledge.
>>
I don't care if it's not 100% accurate, it's comfy and interesting
>>
>>34992493
Being wrong can still be the result of research. He corrects himself if shit's wrong.

For someone at his age, he has a tremendous amount of authoritative gun knowledge. That's part of the whole ethos of FW and InRange: no clickbait and no memes, just let the content speak for itself.

>>
why does this thread keep being made? Why cant you spare us from this autism?
>>
>>34994948
I'm happy for a FW thread even if it's only sperg hate and bait taking. I can't even count the number of times I've just spaced out listening to Ian ramble on about some gun I never heard of from some army I don't care about. Soothing.

The actual prototype/development guns though get me diamonds. Not going to see that shit anywhere else.
>>
>>34993213
They have dedicated live shitposters instead
That's kind of sad actually
>>
>>34992435
His historical content is good. His stuff on modern guns is opinionated larp trash.
>hey looks like certain guns jam up when you dump rocks and mud on them
>must mean the last few decades of soldiers experience with these weapons under actual combat conditions is invalid
>>
>>34995082
Maybe its my inner fanboy speaking, but I always got the vibe that Ian only partook in the mud tests because it was fun, and it was just Korl Kasorda that thought they were worth a shit for anything.
>>
>>34993190
/b/ is just trap porn now. /pol/ definitely has the highest concentration of retardation on here. That being said, it's not all trash, time travelling trump is good shit.
>>
>>34995082
It's not even opinionated, it's just silly larp trash. For fun. Of course his reasoning behind shit like the mud test explaining why his results were what they were was sound.
>Hmm big gaps in mechanism means big mud in mechanism
>Tight fits means less mud
It's been true since the 1800s and it's true now, doing silly youtube-tier tests is just what people do.
>>
>>34995110
It's definitely my inner fanboy speaking when I hate on those mud tests. I'm a big AK guy and now people always sperg out about how AK's are unreliable because they can't run with gravel soup in them. There are plenty of torture tests with far more normal scenarios where AK's dominate. But now everyone brings up that one like it's the final verdict. I like AR's a lot too, but AK's are the most reliable.
>>
>>34995113
>/pol/ definitely has the highest concentration of reddit on here
FTFY
>>
>>34995148
I mean it's obvious Ian is a big AR fanboy, so there is definitely some bias.
>>
>>34995170
>implying there's a difference
>>
>>34995156
>>34995173
There's a lot of situations in which an AR will get completely fucked too, super dry/sandy/dusty with no lube means those same tight fits work against you. It's not a 'this gun is better' scenario its 'this was our strategic decision due to our logistical situation' type of intended design. You don't have to get mad about it.
>>
>>34995197
Also AR has functional problems in freezing weather. The only reason it's stuck around so long in so many environmens is the US has logistics to keep forward guys very well maintained. When has russia actually fought in jungles/swamps? Completely different reasoning behind their designs.
>>
>>34995197
I'm just annoyed that it's a silly test in the first place. Where are you going to encounter mud like that that's deep enough to submerge a gun? It's an unrealistic test that AR fanboys constantly bring up to trash AK's.
>>
>>34992435
I just assume that anyone who hates Gun Jesus is a Yeager fan.
>>
>>34995335
Trenches, viet nam. It's such a badly framed test that the AR will obviously win using it as any evidence for anything is silly. The real solution here is to not argue with autists. Enjoy the gun designs and mechanics for what they are and realize your own preferences and biases are their own separate thing.
>The AK wins at firing 7.62x39 in every test
Yes, that is a sort of a test but
>It's really a nice round for my personal needs and I enjoy shooting it.
is also acceptable because there is no winner in stupid internet arguments.
>>
For his age the nigger sure knows his shit and that is why we love him. It' is straight forward analysis of the mechanics/engineering involved, not the typical manual/book regurgitating that most "experts" do.

This
>>
>>34995082
Ian never seemed to suggest that those tests were the be-all-end-all test for a firearm. He just was mad that dipshits refused to believe the AK could fail a test and the AR didn't.

I don't recall him ever making the claim that the AK was unreliable garbage because it failed one test. He even points out in the video that the reason it's so reliable is also the reason it failed the mud test.

Two problems; he does not even try to pronounce certain names, and he really needs to quit trying to demonstrate the manual of arms for a right-handed gun as a left hander. Either he has to do it right handed or he has to shut up. Latest example is the Italian SMG he showed, for a right hander it would work well, but he demonstrates it as a left hander and he can't get it to work, so he calls it a bad design. It's unprofessional and stupid.
>>
>>34999573
You'd figure a guy as obsessed with French firearms as him would actually learn the language.
Though, to his credit, he has been improving a bit.
>>
>>34999611
I think his schedule is like:
>go to RIA
>make 30 videos in 3 days
>go back to Tucson to cuddle with Karl

His schedule at RIA must be so hectic he probably's not even considering how things are pronounced, just getting the info on camera takes all his time.

A design from the fucking forties, a time where left handers were just told to be right handed.

>Manual of arms from the left shoulder

Have you not seen every bullpup rifle he's ever done? He does all that shit on the right as necessary
>>

I think that one was a general all-handed bad. I think the front safety is an interesting idea but that was not a good implementation of it for any human being. Besides the beretta SMGs were godlike why would any italian even compete?

I agree. Never found mud test to be a practical reliability test, I mean they were never designed for that and if your rifle falls into that mud your fucked up big time.
They did a Sand test once, with an air compressor that I feel would be much much more practical and closer to what the weapons may face during normal use and for what they should each be designed to deal with, but they did it only once. Always wondered why they didn't do more of them.

>>35006929

I don't understand.
Did you watch the video?
Do you want me to explain it for you?
Are you just shitposting?
>>
>>35008168
I've watched every video. Usually buttblasted maddies are aching with rage to explain how correct their bad opinions are.
>>
>>35008177

I'm not talking about anything opinion-based at all.
Just go watch the first few minutes of the video.
If you honestly don't see what's wrong, then you can come back and I'll explain it to you.
>>
>>35008214
You're not talking about fucking anything, just bullshitting and being mad. There's nothing wrong in the video.

At this point its just quicker for me to explain it then to keep asking you to watch the video.

Its supposed to be a 1911 mud test.
He claims the Ballester Molina is a copy of the 1911, minus the grip safety.

In fact, the two guns are completely different, the ballester molina is actually based on the Star B.
The only parts commonality they have is the magazine, and barrel. (barrel is only in theory, actual specs may vary.

He says that people would complain no matter what gun he picked for the test, yet he picked one that is objectively not a 1911 in any sense, and was objectively wrong in saying they were related.

The Star B is objectively a 1911. Stay mad.
>>

Good job wasting my time I guess?
You definitely weren't trying to make me mad, so I guess that's all you were going for?
>>

You wasted your own time.
