What is the best knife for batoning?
A baton?
>>34992578
axes are too heavy and bulky. why carry one when you can just bring a knife?
>>34992401
this one
>>34992401
Something close to what's in your pic, something thick, full tang.
My advice; if you're worried about weight, and plan on processing any practical amount of firewood just get a folding saw
Any knife thicker than 0.125" and tempered properly will hold up to abuse

A boy's axe. Knives are for cutting.
>>34992606
Hatchets weigh nothing. They also double as hammers.
>>34992606
because you will never see a legitimate thread asking which axe is good for splitting wood
One shaped like this.
>>34992401
You're going to want a thick, full tang fixed blade knife. Your pic looks good, because the
tang runs all the way to the end of the handle, but the blade is honestly looks too thin.
The two main faulure you will see with batoning is where the tang meets the blade or the blade itself.
Unless you can think of another reason you will need a 1/4" thick foot long knife at your camp
carry something smaller and a hatchet with it. Batoning puts a slot of stress on the blade and you
will see them snap at the tip when they are thin, in the middle of the wood by flexing, and at the
tang because of shoddy construction
Hachets can "baton" just as effectively as a knife can by smacking the back end with a rock.
Hachets will never break this way unlike knives which often break during batoning unless they are
ridiculously ((thicc))
We all know the reason faggots baton is because they can't strike with a hatchet and want to sit on
their ass while splitting wood. You can baton tinder with any knife. Stop trying to baton your fucking
fuel logs and you won't need a ridiculously beefy knife.

go back to redd1t faggot
>>34993556
Get a saw, get a hatchet, and get a fat-ass skinning knife.
each has a job, but "splitting logs" is not the job of a knife.
Splitting sticks and shaving tinder is what a knife is for.
You can skip the saw or the hatchet, but carry at least one
and a knife.

A wedge. Batoning a knife is a great way to break it.

Which head weight is best for wood carving / more delicate work in general?
I have a hatchet with a 2 lbs head and it's honestly way too heavy for me.

>axes are too heavy and bulky
Why not instead of bringing a heavy knife that can take a lot of batoning, you bring a hatchet and a smaller knife to offset the weight issue?

Make your own seax. Making one similar too this but don't have a pic of my sketches. Next step is cutting out the shape on 1095 HC and filing. Doing it all by hand because poorfag.

Hello friends, does anyone own a husqvarna hatchet and if so what do you think of it?
>>34992401
just carry a steel wedge, stop breaking knives and then saying they aren't good.
>>34998414
>just carry a steel wedge,
like a hatchet?
>>34998316
in all honesty an axe is an axe. once you get the thing you gotta put an edge on it. if you're willing to spend a nickle, contact a blacksmith and see if you can't have him make you an axehead. most people buy gransfors bruks because of the warranty.
>>34998414
that shit's heavier than carrying an axe.
>>34992606
They're heavy and bulky because the design is useful for efficiently and effectively splitting wood holy shit this makes me.mad, you baton fags are insufferable vaginas.
>>34998443
Wedges are considerably more thick than a hatchet and you should be able to pound on one without fear of it splintering or breaking
>>35000124
Love me some nata.
>>34996673
I need the original in its full length glory as soon as possible.
Batoning isn't something you strive to do, it's an improvisation. That said, I've used an old bajonett m/96 to make kindling many times.
I don't know much about knives, but it's sturdy, balanced and very comfortable to hold.
An axe you pleb.
>>35000124
this is beautifull
>>34998316
Dad has one (I think, could also be a Hultafors) which I've used many times. It's a piece of wood with a piece of decent quality steel fastened to it. No real sense importing one if you don't live in scandinavia.
>>34995741
For real I got one of these not too long ago and it hasn't given me any problems with batoning
