I don't even follow 40k but from what I've gleaned from lurking this kind of shit on /k/ even I can understand its more for the aesthetic if you're referring chiefly to the tech of the Imperium. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've come under the impression that new technology is pretty taboo and only accepted designs are permitted to be built, mostly very old designs from before some time period or something, in which case the style makes sense to me solely for the aesthetic they're going for. Why not just teleport the slug into the man? Or teleport something nearby, like a vase or a chair, into the man? Or teleport the man into a nearby wall? Or teleport the man into space? Or teleport a chunk of the structure into space, causing a collapse or breach? Or just vaporize him with the fucking teleporter, which certainly should be possible since it happens accidentally often enough.

Because that isn't how transporters work. Maybe you could transport the projectile into the person, but then you wouldn't have the added kinetic energy. You can't just arbitrarily point a transporter at an object far away and transport it somewhere else, it has to go to the tranposter device (when "beaming" somebody up) or has to be in very close proximity to the transporter to be transported away. Also it's handheld, and doesn't have the same power as a normal transporter. All in all it makes more sense than lots of stuff in the universe
