My opinion on these ads though, it's indifferent. They just don't seem to paint a realistic picture to impressionable young men & women of what they're going to get. Then again anything's possible, but I'm 110% positive that a lot of these Hollywood-like visions of triumph and honor are going to be very FEW and FAR between.

I'm just saying that you get a lot of gung ho "Go team!" kids going in and even more disgruntled and messed up people coming out, acting like they didn't expect anything to be like it was. Can't even begin to tell you how many miserable poor fucks I worked alongside that hated their time in the service. The lot of them just couldn't wait for their 4 years to be up.

Kind off & on topic, but for a lot of them though it wasn't the advertising that betrayed them, it was the stories and tales passed down from the older generations. Jesus... I swear every other Marine and their father has told me the "That was my favorite sand flea now dig a man sized grave for it!" story... Oh and who could forget the ol' "They used to be able to hit us back in boot camp! You guys have it easy..."

The IDF made a series of short ads, but was highly criticized for it, because "it's a mandatory conscription anyway, who are you advertising it to?".

The punchline in all of them is that the person asks "(you think that) this is strong/intense?", and at the end answers: "the IDF is strong!".
