Did something happen with .22 pistols the last month?

>See a $250 MkII on a local forum
>Several local dealers have MkIIIs $200-250 with extras
>Those dealers also have cheap rare (in this state) guns like Hi Standards, Buckmarks, and H&Rs
>Take a couple weeks to work on my car
>Come back and everything's sold
>Dealer with the $200 MKIIIs is now asking $400

I fail to understand. It's not like anything else has sold out around here.

They're masters of the .22lr. I just never personally saw a reason. There's probly also .22 conversions for lots of guns that aren't .22 that could be good in both modes.

>>34988652
Well that's kind of... well 22lr is not reliable ammo, even at its best. A revolver won't have feed problems and you can double tap that primer pretty easy.... but you also can't easily eject FTF's which is probly a better option rather than cycling around. I absolutely love the ritual of firing a SAA gun though, especially in .22

It really does.

Think about it like this. Replica .22s aren't built to be the best .22 they can be at a certain price, they're built to look like their centerfire counterpart. That means concessions made to geometry, materials, spring rates and elsewhere. Those concessions mean weak points, lightweight and weaker materials, and unreliability.

There are two or three .22s based on centerfire handguns I can think of that are not complete shit. All of the others have had long troubled histories, most notoriously the P22.

They don't. It's my opinion of course, just like it's your opinion that they have "great triggers," but CZ triggers are not very good, especially the decocker models which tend to have quite a lot of creep. Even the safety models are creepier than most modern strikers. Go pull up a youtube video of someone reviewing a CZ75 and watch them pull the trigger slowly. You can SEE whether a trigger is good, as long as you turn off the volume so you aren't confused by what they're saying to the contrary. Sootch is especially bad at lying about triggers being super good when they visibly are not.

I know what a good trigger is, I've got plenty of good and bad ones, pic related. But we're off topic now so let's agree to disagree ok?

Most of Walther's triggers are very good out of the box, like top 20 of all time good. Especially the P99, PPQ and PPX/Creed (yes really!). HK VP9 is very good too, but the other polymer HKs (other than Match models) are have pretty mediocre triggers. 1911s, even low end ones still tend to have pretty good triggers because of how simple and rigid the mechanism and frame are.

I have not tried either of them but I have heard Grand Power Ps/Ks and CZ P10s have excellent out of the box triggers. I put no weight behind that, it's just hearsay on my part.

That doesn't mean any gun not mentioned is bad, even filteredanon's CZs which I love, most guns have plenty of worthy merits. I'm just talking trigger snobbery here.

>>34993899
Then you haven't actually held a PPQ or you don't know what to look for in a good trigger.

I suspect you're calling it shit because the takeup isn't ice-on-ice, which is pretty silly because it has nothing to do with the break.

Sorry.
>>
>>34993998
I've only ever shot hammer fired guns. I was toying with the idea of picking up a P10C becasue there was a lot of hype around how good their triggers were even compared to the PPQ. So I went into a shop and asked to handle a PPQ and though it was terrible, so the guy even went into the back to get a different one and it was just as bad.

Then again, I guess I've been spoiled since most of the guns I've ever fired (at least when it comes to pistols) had trigger jobs done on them in some way or another. Best trigger I've ever felt was on a CZ Compact SDP

What does /k/ think of the Mossberg 702? Is it decent 22lr rifle for it's 100 dollar price? I trust Mossberg shotguns but I'm unsure about this or just going with the Ruger 10/22

I mean all I have to shoot 22lr is my two Heritage rough riders.

Dunno about the brazil gun, I'm sure it's adequate but there's so much competition in that range why would you even go there?
>>
>>34996220
I was local Walmart getting Munchos chips and saw it at a decent price on my way out. But it's not a high priority thing so I let it be.

>>
>>34996146
Well according to the poorfag guns guide its either bad or shit teir depending on the version. I went with the marlin 795 and it seems great for plinking and its only 140ish brand new. I would caution you though, that if you want this gun for anything more than plinking just get a 10/22 and call it a day. I found myself a little unsatisfied with the marlins trigger after a while and looked into what i could do to remedy that. Well me not wanting to make any irreversible changes to the sear sort of led to me purchasing and installing the dpi trigger (and trigger guard, but thats a story of stupidity). I like the trigger muh better now but it also turned a 140$ gun into an almost 200$ one. 50 more and i could just have got the 10/22. So only go with a cheap option if you want something you can use as is and beat up with few worries.
>>
>>34996046
Not that anon but incase he never comes back, what do you think makes a great trigger? What little ive read seems to sugget cz's have great triggers but what you said about the trigger creep seems inline with how i feel with the few guns ive handled
>>
>>34996291

>>34996331
Zero creep is mandatory to a good trigger. And not like pull the trigger so fast you that can't feel the creep, but ZERO creep no matter how slow you pull or hard you try to induce it. Sigs fail this test, they are clean breaking if you pull quickly but do it slowly and you can feel the sear slipping slowly off the hammer. I cannot induce creep in a PPQ, P99 or VP9 trigger under any circumstance, which is exemplary.

In a pistol, a break weight between 2 and 6 pounds with a take-up weight of 10 to 40% of final pull weight. No matter how much money is poured into them, Glocks fail this test as take-up is 80%+ of the final pull weight (not to mention the horrendous, insurmountable creep). P99, PPQ and VP9 all smash this test as well.

Where applicable, smooth double action pull, with no significant stacking (since a little can't be avoided) and no bumps or grit. DA/SA CZs in particular fail this test, they have significant stacking and little tactile bumps all along the DA pull.

In my opinion, take-up and overtravel are irrelevant to a good handgun trigger. Take-up doesn't affect the break or the pull, and any perception of overtravel is lost in the recoil of a centerfire handgun (but overtravel can certainly be important in rimfire handguns and in all rifles). Further, take-up in most handguns and some rifles is used to disengage the gun's safeties, so to exchange those safeties in order to smooth out something that makes no difference to the breaking shot is illogical and dangerous.

Would you mind taking the time to explain why take-up is that important to you? I'm having trouble understanding how it could be.

What is the cheapest most entertaining first gun I can get? 10/22?
>>
>>34999990
>22
>entertaining
Nah
>>
>>35000024
If you don't think .22lr is entertaining you don't like shooting.

Cheapest would probably be a Ruger American or Savage Mark bolt action, to me it's quite fun to slow down and be precise. But you can do that with a 10/22 too, or decide to snap off a full clip in a row. So yeah, that'd be an excellent choice.

>>35000024
.22 is THE BEST caliber for fun, you're insane or trolling.

>I just shot 500 rounds for only 30 bucks!

>not fun

I bet you don't even own any guns

Try .308 and .357 magnum, we'll talk after

22 rifles feel like pellet guns
>>
>>35001565
Honestly, if you can't get joy out of an air rifle, again, you don't like shooting.
>>
>>35001565
Also just because you enjoy shooting .22lr doesn't mean you don't shoot other calibres or enjoy them.

Maybe you just enjoy firearms as a social crutch or the mechanisms of it rather than actually shooting?
>>
>>35001565
But that's all I shoot; I shoot .22lr on a 25 yard range, .308 at Bisley and gallery shooting with a .357 lever action.
>>
>>35001599
Nice fallacy you got there

What are the 3 ones that aren't shit?

Your loss.

Preface: I have no personal experience with these, but I still don't trust them.
Walther PPQ .22 (Umarex)
S&W M&P Compact .22 (Umarex)
And sort of the CZ75 with Kadet .22 kit, but this one's kind of unfair because it's a normal aluminum CZ75 frame with a steel .22 slide unlike nearly every other lookalike .22 which is made of zinc and plastic.

They are the only three I have seen mostly positive opinions of in terms of reliability and durability. The M&P Compact .22 seems to be the most reliable Umarex.

Just about everything else is fraught with problems, even most .22 kits for "real" guns. 1911 kits and Sig kits are particularly finicky. Pic related is the worst .22 I own by far. I'm lucky to get five consecutive shots out of it.

It's so fucking retro-future. I need it.
>>
>>35003597
Thought there was a whitney wolverine repro in like .17hm2 or something.
>>
What's more fun to shoot, a Ruger SR22 or Ruger Mark IV?
>>
>news
>woman shoots abusive husband
>several times
>with a .22 revolver
>he just strolls off and takes a bus

Why do people pretend .22 works "in a pinch "?
>>
>>35005383
.22 will kill you dead but not as fast as other shit usually.
>>
>>35005383
Who pretends this?
>>
Dude 22s xd
>>
>>34998137
It's quite accurate actually and doesn't jam too often, but I don't use it much anymore since it's pretty cumbersome for a .22 so I usually just stick to my bolt-action
