I currently work in seafood packing and I'm telling you, as bad as it is in places like China and South America, US fish is at least not going to give you cadmium poisoning. It's a rigidly moderated industry as far as sanitation goes. The biggest thing is that not every plant follows the same standards, so it's more up to the consumer to know where their product is coming from. That being said, however, the bigger the company is the stricter their controls are. If you buy from Costco or Walmart or some such other place, they aren't going to bother getting their fish from anywhere other than companies like trident.
