When I got my first nugget at a gun show a random guy stopped me and asked if I knew why the bayonet was + shaped.

I said I didn't and he told me it was because the Russians were all atheists, so they made their bayonets "cross shaped" to kill Christians with.

Yeah I don't understand the logic either.

.30-06 is better though. Get a rifle with thicker chamber walls and you can make that cartridge fuckin shine with handloads. There is no reason a .30-06 shouldn't be able to push 150gr past 3100fps

Range Officers tells me this:

"it is inadvisable to shoot more than 50 slugs in your shotgun per session. The barrel would heat up, and the bore will enlarge over time and lose accuracy"

Sometimes people just have to keep their mouth shout, regardless of position. On top of that, i was shooting my handloads, fully saboted, under-gauge slugs, basically zero lead to bore contact in a cylinder barrel.

Pah. They are cross shaped for the same reason 19th century bayonets were cruciformed. It adds strength and allows you to use cheaper steel. And since it is for stabbing you don't need to sharpen it, and since it can be dull you don't need to protect it in a sheath. I can think of a lot of reasons for why a blade bayonet is good, but cruciform is not stupid.

I mean the idea has at least some merit, if your enemy cares about treating the wounded and you only wound someone it takes three men to get the guy back to safety, and then it places an additional strain on their medical supplies to keep the guy alive as well as the civilian morale impact of having a bunch of wounded likely pissed vets around, if you just outright kill the guy he ends up buried somewhere with a letter sent to his family and within a half a year he's pretty much forgotten.

But the observation that most of the rounds the military uses are for suppression, which means you just need something loud, moderately dangerous, and a ton of them is probably the more likely option.

It is true for some rounds though, 9mm Luger and .380 acp will fit and fire in a 9mm Makarov chamber without blowing up, you just won't be able to reliably cycle rounds from the magazine but the reverse isn't true, and 7.62x25 Tokarev chambers can fire 7.63x25 Mauser without modification.

Interestingly, I was hunting with my 20 gauge once, and shot a rabbit...it wasn't a very far shot at all and the whole rabbit got peppered, but not a single pellet made it through the hide, and it was the concussion of being hit that killed the poor thing.
