Well the SB Tactical version is cheaper, but it doesn't reduce the buffer tube length. The Maxim Defense version is quite nice and does reduce the buffer tube length, but is quite expensive. You can get a normal buffer version and save a chunk off the price, but the JP buffer is worth it in my opinion.

The SB Tactical is like $300 from their site and the cost of the gun (being as I already have a BC/CH) is $310 plus my shops $35 transfer fee.
At that point might as well tax stamp it and get a proper buffer and stock for only $100-200 more.

I consider what that specific part does and wether that is worth the price or not, regardless of what the rest of the gun is worth. You can always transfer the stock over later on or sell it. If you went for the Maxim Defense model, you could just buy the actual stock and swap the brace off, once you get the stamp, since the base is the same.

Coincidentally, I plan to get a Zenith MP5 clone at some point and stick a Tailhook or an SB tactical brace on it for the same reasons. I REALLY want an MP5...I get to shoot a full giggle, legit HK fairly often when I visit my sheriff buddy in Alabama and I lust for one.

So I'm thinking about putting on big boy pants and buying a barrel and changing out the current carbine set up on a pre built I got at a time when building was not an option. I know I need a vise, and the block for the upper. Few questions if anyone knows off hand. I believe barrel wrench and torque wrench set to 30-55 ft lbs? Can I/ should i reuse barrel nut and delta ring assembly and FSB or is that a no go? Any recommendations on what to put on threads, I've seen people say a bunch of different shit from nothing to blue loctite and all kinds of things. I have the basic ideas of what I'd be doing but small details I'm unsure of before ordering anything. General tidbits of advice too?
