Don't get me wrong, I like the A2 aesthetic and the look of carry handles on M16 clones. If you want to build a 20" AR and shoot it with irons by all means get a carry handle.

If you want to shoot with an optic, on any barrel size, you're just handicapping yourself. Get a detachable so you can get your fix when you need to, and keep your optic in a QD mount. Fuck any autistic faggots that complain about the detachable carry handle. With a fixed handle you have very limited optics choices with very mediocre mounting solutions.

With a flat top you have a wide variety of good optic choices and rock solid QD mounts. Paired with a set of BUIS you're golden.

The principle wounding mechanism of 5.56 is fragmentation after all, and if what I've read is true, once it passes the fragmentation threshold, its effectiveness is drastically reduced, correct? Past the fragmentation threshold, what then? Do you just rely on the chance of tumbling? Shot placement? Am I reading these charts wrong and this is only the distance at which there's *complete* fragmentation (for example, I believe I read that, with 10.3" barrels, Mk 262 will completely fragment out to 50 meters, and partially fragment out to 100 meters. But, at the same time, I've also read that the round remains effective with this barrel length out to 275-300m). Furthermore, how does the effective range at which the terminal ballistics of 5.56 are ideal (roughly speaking) compare to 5.45 and 7.62x39?
