Should I build an 11.5 pistol 5.56 for HD? I was thinking fixed FSB, m4 ras, maybe a shockwave blade, how much should it run me to build something pretty decent sans optic? Aero stripped upper/lower,toolcraft bcg and faxon/ballistic advantage barrel should be a good start?

If was was to do a 9mm using colt SMG mags, how much more would I be looking at cost wise, just curious.

Can somebody explain something to me REAL quick?

Can somebody explain to me, how there are LWRC M6IC-DI rifles with the new MLOK rail on gunbroker, for $1200, and they aren't FLYING off the shelves?

I don't care how you spin it, you will not get more rifle than this for $1200. Where do I even begin? Maybe I should begin with the fully ambidextrous lower, complete with fencing: Fencing which required LWRC to start from a brand new, proprietary forging? Perhaps the right side bolt release, which allows you to actually lock the bolt back, unlike the KAC ambi lower which only lets you release the bolt.

Speaking of custom forged receivers, how about the upper? Undeniably, an improvement over the traditional AR upper receiver, or perhaps I should say, a modernization. Have you ever stopped to contemplate how ridiculous it is that every free float rail on the market depends on the barrel nut for attachment? It's a retro-fit design. The custom monoforged LWRC upper works by attaching the free float handguard directly to the upper. Gone are the days of anti rotation tabs, and weak clamshell handguard designs. Gone are the days of bulky, proprietary barrel nuts that are a bitch and a half to align. The LWRC design is lighter weight AND stronger. Oh, and as a bonus, you get several extra pic slots on the upper receiver. So instead of bridging the gap between the upper and the rail with your red dot, trying to get it as far forward as you can afford, you have plenty of room to breathe. Oh, and cantilever mounts are no longer a necessity for you scope lovers out there.

After reading that, I know what you're thinking: WHY the FUCK did it take this long for these OBVIOUS improvements to the AR15 to come to fruition?

Well, I can't answer that for you, but I can tell you one thing: The buck doesn't stop there.
>WHAT???
You're saying.
>WHAT????? HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY AFFORD TO ADD EVEN ~MORE~ FEATURES AT THAT PRICE POINT??????
Woah! Calm down buster, and I'll tell ya!

>>34974084
>So...
You're thinking to yourself:
>What else could there possibly be? LWRC already took all these risks developing a brand new upper and lower receiver from custom forgings, finally bringing the AR15 into the 21st century. At this affordable price point, what other amazing features could they jam into these things?
Well, maybe I should mention the BCG? The first thing you'll notice is that it's NiB plated, which means carbon wipes right off and it has a high natural lubricity. After that, you might notice how the forward assist notches stop at a reasonable point instead of going all the way to the gas vent holes, as if the guy behind the machine cutting the notches zoned out! Obviously it's a full auto style BCG; that extra weight means extra reliability, doubly so with the H2 buffer that comes standard. But if you want to see what's really special about the bolt carrier you'll have to take it out of the receiver. Read this part slowly: Instead of having the gas key held on by a couple of flimsy looking bolts, held in place by crudely mashing the sides of the gas key in on them, the gas key is actually INCORPORATED into the bolt carrier!
>CHRIST ON A BIKE, INTO THE BOLT CARRIER???
I know! Can we even call it an AR15 at this point, or is it an entirely new beast?

Well, regardless of how we name this marvel of engineering, we'd be remiss to ignore one of the best parts of this rifle: The 16.1 inch, heavy profile, cold hammer forged, spiral fluted, QPQ nitrocarburized barrel. The low profile gas block is taper pinned (no set screws here) into a mid length position.

By the way, that QPQ finish is applied to basically all the small parts. Ambi safety (which is also held in place by roll pins, no screws you have to worry about coming loose)? Check. Ambi charging handle levers? Check. Gas block and gas tube? Check.
>no way... It's not like they treated ALL the small parts. What about...hmmm... the selector lever detent spring??
Check.
>>
>>34974084

Yep, these rifles are almost as rust-proof as a Glock, and they seethe with the quality that Glock owners have become accustomed to. By now, you've probably got your credit card out and you're checking Gunbroker already. But wait, you just noticed something:
>Where are all the accessories?!
HA! Good one. See, LWRC managed to keep the price down by not putting a bunch of pricey accessories on these that you would just replace anyways. No iron sights? You probably wouldn't like them anyways. A2 flash hider? If you want something different (why would you?) you'll get it yourself. Magpul MOE+ grip? It's a pistol grip, it does everything it needs to, and Magpul polymer is world renowned for being almost as advanced as Glock. Why should LWRC drive the price up by putting things you don't want on the rifle, only for you to have to replace them? Besides, half the fun is ricing it out anyways!

If you've made it this far, you've probably forgotten what the current price on these is. Considering all the value you're getting..
>hmmm... what sounds fair.. $2600?
Way off!
>Damn, out of my price range. $3000?
You're getting colder. No, you're way off in the WRONG DIRECTION!
>What, so... don't laugh if I'm way off, but... $1800..?
HA-..I mean um, excuse me, but, you might want to sit down before you read this.

Just for future reference, ballistic advantage doesn't relief cut their barrels behind the muzzle threads which means unless your suppressor mount accounts for this, it's not going to fucking seat against the shoulder.

Saker that'll be mounted on a B.E. Meyers 249 ASR.

>>34974635
The shims don't actually seat against the shoulder, they stop just short of it, the same distance the muzzle device does when threaded on. The gap is smaller than my smallest feeler gauge, but large enough to clearly see when held up to a light. At first I thought it was the muzzle device bottoming out on the muzzle face or the threads, but I've tried all of the shims that come in the AAC kit and each one of them presents the same gap.

>>34974659
Heyo Burto. See my response to the other poster above. The shims themselves don't even make contact with the shoulder. I'm guessing the diameter of the area immediately behind the threads is correct until just before it hits the shoulder, and then it increases. The gap between shoulder and shim is less than .005" or .13mm, but it's clearly there. I'm guessing certain manufacturers chamfer their muzzle devices to avoid this issue, but looking around I'm seeing this is a rather common issue with others, B.E. Meyers being one of them (at least for the 249ASR).

That sounds unusual. The thick shim in a shim kit is usually cut with a larger ID to accommodate for blended shoulders. I've not seen one fail to fit.

You could try a few things rather than condemn the barrel, because that rounded shoulder is significantly stronger than a squared one. Also rounded shoulders are not uncommon.
1: Try another shim. Accu-Washer for example.
2: Try flipping the thick shim around, if it's stamped it may have a flat side and a beveled side, the beveled side may fit.
3: Using a file, deburring tool or chamfering tool, alter the shim to fit the shoulder.

The barrel's quality is not affected by the shoulder, unless the threads are not cut to spec. Spec doesn't always call for a relief cut.

Pic is with the thickest shim in the kit (.30mm). Gap remains the same size regardless of the thickness. I'm guessing these shims are finished so that the bevel is done away with and are meant to be used with a square shoulder.

I'll try out the PWS kit for the thick shim, which would most likely solve my problem if the ID is large enough. If not I'll have to chamfer it myself. Would you happen to know of an easy way to do this uniformly?

I don't doubt the barrel is fine, after all I haven't even put round one through it. I'm a little aggravated that for how common this is, it simply isn't addressed clearly by BA. Just another learning experience I guess. On the bright side, I figured all of this out before I had an oops with a suppressor I don't even have the stamp back for.

What kind of shim kit is that? That's a weird janky looking one, like an intermediate thickness, it's not as thick or thin as it should be. IMO if you don't have the tools to enlarge the shim yourself, try another shim kit first, from a quality name PWS or Accu-Washer, they're only like $10-20.

It sucks that you should have to.

I thought about emailing them. Not much they can do other than recommend a shim. I doubt they'd square the shoulder on a finished barrel for me for less than a different shim set would cost. They're aware of this, and one of their reps made a post on some forum about why they don't do relief cuts.

For what it's worth, the BCM standard barrel I have lying around exhibits the exact same issue.

>>34975136
I probably should have just done that in the first place.

>>34975232
It's out of an AAC shim kit. I'm guessing they strictly meant for indexing muzzle brakes but at the time I didn't know the shoulder was my problem. Should the PWS kit's large washer work or should I just go ahead and order the accu-washer kit and be done with it?

Nope, I was mistaken, all three shim thicknesses in the PWS kit measure .5085 on the ID. The thick shim is minutely beveled on one side but I'm not certain that would be enough to make a difference in your case. At least I wouldn't be comfortable still recommending the PWS shims as a definite solution.

I do however know that they are very slightly oversized and have wiggle room around the threads so it's possible the ID of the PWS shims is larger than that of the AAC shims. Measure yours to find out, and if there's a big enough difference then that MAY give it enough room to seat on the shoulder. Also, from pictures, the Accu-Wedges are also not beveled.

If the difference isn't great enough then I would again suggest using a chamfer tool, deburring tool or hand file to enlarge and bevel the ID of your thickest shim, or two of them if need be.

>it's possible the ID of the PWS shims is larger than that of the AAC shims

The AAC shims have a listed ID of .500 but I don't have calipers here to check that. Like I said, I'll probably end up contacting BA to see where I go from here but my gut feeling is that they'll give me the exact same advice.

I'm just left wondering why I had to search so specifically for people having this issue when it's not really at all uncommon. I was kind of excited to put this rifle together. Now I'd just like it to be done.

I wouldn't be surprised if BA sent you a shim kit free if it would work.

Just shoot it without the muzzle device for now, you can still zero and stuff.

I used their website's contact form, gave them the picture. Might call on Monday and see how helpful their phone support is. Otherwise I'm going to contact ADCO to see if they're willing to work on a QPQ'ed barrel or if I need to just sell it and look for another lightweight barrel.
