> another one of Hungarias tanks that wasn't all that great coming into service after t-34/85 and js-2 with only only about 40mm of armor and I think a 50mm main gun basically a shit panzer 3 at the end of the war
>>34966176
Bumping because I love obscure shit.
>>34966555
It amazes me when I think that the knowledge of better tank designs were blatantly obvious and available, yet the smaller countries of the day still made shit tanks that were born 5 years later than they should have been.
>Swede tanks
>Hungarian tanks
>Italian tanks
>Japanese tanks
All way behind the curve for little apparent reason, excepting Japan to a degree.
>>34966861
Few nations were hardly modernized at that time. Even germany had fallen short of modernization in a few key areas.
I'll throw this little guy in just for shirts and giggles this is a skoda turtle armored car made in Czechoslovakia. The Germans did go on to use these little guys afer they took over I don't think the Germans continued production for many obvious reasons . you can see a ww1 style camo being used on the ones in the pic.
> for anyone how cars takom and hobbyboss make models of this thing
>>34967062
Just a fun little extra tidbit I found
>Skoda sold three of them to Vienna's police forces in 1927, and participated in the famous beer hall putsch suppression operation. The remaining nine were purchased by the Czech police.

>It amazes me when I think that the knowledge of better tank designs were blatantly obvious and available, yet the smaller countries of the day still made shit tanks that were born 5 years later than they should have been.
Military is the single most expensive thing you can imagine and you are missing the fact that the world had just dug out of a global economic crisis called the Great Depression.
Very few nations well off and even those with relatively decent economy were reluctant to spend money on military. US included, just look at the gear they used when they first got in on it with stuff like M3 Lees.
>>34969590
>"To our troops, the Spaniards are a crew of ragamuffins. They regard a rifle as an instrument that should not be cleaned under any pretext. Their sentries exist only in principle. They don't take up their posts, or, if they do take them up, they do so in their sleep. When the Russians arrive, the natives have to wake them up. But the Spaniards have never yielded an inch of ground. One can't imagine more fearless fellows. They scarcely take cover. They flout death. I know, in any case, that our men are always glad to have Spaniards as neighbours in their sector."-Adolf Hitler
>>34966861
The Zrinyi was actually fairly successful I believe. I think the Nimrod was ok too, although it was originally ordered as a combined AA-gun/Tank destroyer, but with only a 40mm gun. In the TD role it was of course rapidly dropped as the T-34 and KV were rolling around.
A lot of it was manufacturing capability and resource availability in the less industrialised countries too. The Hungarians were getting around to building their own Panther clone, but the Yanks bombed the shit out of the facility was gonna make them, so the project was cancelled.
>>34966861
The problem as usual lies in machines and tooling.
Smaller, less developed countries typically lacked the ability to get decent welding equipment(back then cutting edge tech in 1920's it was what 3d printing is to us today) or their metallurgy was lacking technologically which made casting elements too hard so almost all "smaller nation's tanks" are just fucking bolted together. If you look at those tanks from design perspective - they weren't excessively outdated by design, but rather, by technology. The gun was shitty but that was the best gun they've had tooling for. The armour scheme was outdated only as much as the technology limited them as well.
And even then, with more developed nations hiccups were common. Soviet Union was on the forefront of welding technology during 20's, 30's and 40's and yet early IS-3's had the bottom of their "pignose" fall off from bad welding, and nobody else even dared to try to make a(welded, A7V has exactly same pignose) tank with armour shaped like that, which tells you that the only people who felt confident enough about their technology being able to handle such design were the Soviets.
>>34969842
Also I find Hungarian armour, and the Zrinyi in particular to be sexy as fuck, so I'm gonna image dump a bit if people don't mind.
>>34969858
Marder-esque conversion of the Toldi light tank.
>>34969869
An example of the Magyar Honved keeping up with the times, the Lehel 43m was a conversion of the Nimrod into an APC of sorts, and an ambulance version was also planned. Project got cut because of the need for Nimrods now, not APCs later. Not many got made, maybe only one. Not many photos of them around anyway, and all shit ones. I need to go to Hungary and see if I can raid some photo archives.

pew
>>34970009
Wait shit wrong image. That's the mythical tank destroyer variant of the Tas. I believe it was actually created from the wild imaginings of some historian after the war, on the basis that two prototype Tas chassis had been made so one might be a planned tank destroyer. Looks funky nonetheless.
>>34970025
>>34970009
>>34970025
designed just because the German command wanted lots of money for the Panther design... apparently they were quite broke in 1944 when they thought about money more than the advancing Red Army...
would surely have been an interesting tank
>>34970044
Yeah the Germans were really shitty allies. "You want to surrender? Tough shit we're gonna launch a coup and put the Arrow Cross in charge."
The Hungarians did get a few Panthers nonetheless.

Someone needs to email this picture to the PM of Ghana, like right now. This discovery could advance their weapons program by centuries.
Was looking for Swiss tanks of ww2 and this "thing" came up can I get some identification on this thing. I'm not convinced this is realy a German thing the grey is way to light to be true panzer grey and I don't think sun exposure would fade that evenly with out fading markings. Is this just a shit restoration of a strange vehicle made up bullshit or what? Most importantly duh fuck is dis?
>>34971715
looks like the chassis of a Panzer 68 so I doubt it's a WW2 tank. Maybe a cheap imitation for a film or something...
>>34971744
It looks like mix of Cold War pre war and ww2 tank design ( realy shit tank props tend to look this way pic related) it does look like the body facing the other way. If this is a prop any anons know what movie this is from

The thing is from White Tiger and the machine underneath is an IS-2, if my Russian didn't fail me.
>>34971882
The similarities are their it's not exact but close. This thing could be a poorly done reconstruction or imitation. Still doesn't explain the german markings or paint job

>>34971937
Read the article instead of looking at the picture and brushing me off like that, anon.
It was a prototype they dragged on and on and on.
The company was of Swiss origin but they were making stuff for Bundswehr.
>>34969956
There's my Finn boys, I was waiting for them to appear in this thread
>>34971976
Those are Wehrmacht markings my dude. Like I said it looks close the gun and the travel lock(that might just be on the thing to keep the gun from slouching down if this thing is a poorly made prop )are the things that make me think it's a reproduction the barrel alone makes it look like it might be a 75mm or less gun. Still leaning towards my pic being a reproduction or a very early protoype albeit with a weird ass paint and marking job
>>34971300
OH SHIT JAPS OH SHIT OH FUCK
>>34971976
What I think I found and then you found information on is a pirat that may have been used in a ww2 movie of some kind but had disarmed don't know Swiss law on this stuff. So they may have thrown toghter a gun for it. With having no intent on making the gun actually work meaning no breach or other mechanisms for it they may have added the travel lock so the gun had a ok looking posture facing mostly straight. If my theory is correct why they didn't just add a counter weight inside the turret is beyond me
>>34969791
the storch and the uhu do things for me
>>34972144
Yeah, I see.
The thing itself was used as a part of re-enactment of US forces liberating that particular town in Belgium.
The tank is absolutely privately owned and used (there are pictures of the Thy castle without it), so the gun getting destroyed is needed, though I think it may have been removed by the company that made it (it was a failed prototype and the gun still had value at the time) with the turret remade by the museum.
If you speak French, you might get slightly more out of http://ordi-web.eu than I did.
>>34969956
>>34970006
The turret and gun mechanisms on this thing amazing. Literally a child can operate manual controls on both elevation and horizontal planes with ease. I did that when I was like ten when I visited tank museum.

>What was NZ thinking when they made this monstrosity?
>>34971776
this movie was so shitty
except for hitlers monologue at the end
Here is a captured Spanish licence copy of the Soviet Ba-6 being used against the Soviets by the Germans as a SPAAG.
Basically they were made by Republican Spain by copying BA-6's which had been Soviet aid. They could be produced easily because Spain was already producing a Chevrolet truck that was very similar to the American truck that the Soviets had copied earlier and was used as the chassis of the BA-6. The Spanish copies were well built with more horsepower but often a variety of weapons.
In 1939 Republican Spanish forces retreated into France, pursed by the Nationalists. The French captured the armoured cars and warehoused them.... Until of course the impending German invasion where the cars were used desperately against the Germans.
As everyone knows, Germans had a fetish for capturing anything they could get their hands on, and so, about thirty of the vehicles were captured and entered German service.
These vehicles saw combat on the Eastern Front around moscow in 1941. They seem to have been modified to suit whatever purpose was needed after serving as security vehicles, then being used by various units to plug gaps in their inventories. Some of them even supposedly fought alongside the Spanish Division Azul.
And so thats how a Spanish republican copy of a Soviet communist armoured car was made with an American capitalist truck, was routed and captured by france only to be desperately used against the fascist Germans, captured by the fascist Germans and used against the communist Soviets by the fascist Spanish.
>>34973153
I've found the same with a Bofors and a Flak 38 so I'd guess the same is true for most light AA anon.
>>34973359
that's quite the story
reminds me of the Mark V tank that was sent to the white Russians, captured by the commies, pressed into service during Barbarossa, captured by the germans and sent to berlin as war trophies, and finally being used in the defense of berlin in april 1945
>>34973421
In SPAAG version there is plenty of weight in turret to turn in addition to gun.
>>34973359
Soviets actually licensed the designs in 30's. It wasn't until the Cold War started that they started copying shit.

>>34975080

Hungarian Carro Veloces. It's quite amazing that it got exported to about 10 countries, surprisingly enough, they even exported to South America back then when there were some juntas with prussian traditions.
>>34975235
Gotta love some Danuvias, way ahead of their times, you can say they were closer to a M2 Carbine than any other SMG at the period.
>>34975137
Just gonna add some confusion to the mix
>Italian tank
>used by German
>I think recaptured by free Italian forces or the Italians it was giving back to realy didn't want to be mistaken as Germans
>>34975312
So it's a Italian Army Semovente, captured/used by Germans, than Free Italy "re"-captured it and that explains the scratches on the german cross, wow.
I really love how much captured gear was used on WW2, there wasn't any sort of logistics or standardization on the field, which lead to a ton of interesting stuff going on.
Does anyone know if a tank that got linleased to the soviets like a stuart or lee may have gotten captured by the germans and then found its way to the western front gotten recaptured and came back into its home countries hands. the real story of homeward bound
>>34975341
Can't find the picture but if I rember an old pic shows a Sherman with stars painted sloppily over iron crosses which would have been painted over the original white american stars.
>>34975254
