Correct, buuuuut were a ways last Inauguration Day and in that time span things have continued to escalate which has thus far resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Since things seem to definitively be escalating still and not the opposite (kill fascists, kill nazis, kill trump has started popping up in graffiti on my commute) this seems like a logical route to peruse.

Buy a concealable soft vest, it will provide better coverage. Your car isnt bulletproof so if anyone shoots at it from the side you're liable to die anyway. Unless youre driving around in a rifle resistant helmet your head is exposed from all angles.

Can anyone recommend a durable and decently customizable surplus ruck/pack for me? I was thinking about buying a Swedish SK35, Dutch Air Force ruck, or just a basic bitch medium ALICE pack. Preferably something that handles webbing and pouches really well. It just needs to be a solid pack that is suited for hiking up mountains. Currently have a 80L that works well for long trips, but I am looking for something smaller and cheaper that I can mod/alter (I've been learning sewing as of late)

The LA Police Gear and 3 Day Recon look pretty good. They'd do well as both wilderness packs and something I can use as a range bag. Think externally attaching both a sleeping mat and roll would be at jenky on the 3 Day Recon?

Also, how do you feel about this?

https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/used-swedish-military-surplus-35l-rucksack-with-frame?a=1923543

I hear they're pretty good quality, have a solid external frame, and are pretty durable. I was thinking about buying it since it's cheap and modding it out. Sew on some pouches, attaching webbing to the frame to go over the pack, modify the straps, and adding a waist belt. I think it'd make for an interesting project.

>2017
Come on buddy get with the year. Sleeping pads take of stupid space.
You can get a decent air pad starting at $50, and it will take up less space than a Nalgene.
This is what I bought a couple of years back and it has served me for over 35 nights now.
https://www.amazon.com/Klymit-Static-Lightweight-Sleeping-Pad/dp/B01C3RW88Y

You can get something nicer for just $30 more.

I have that exact same 35L ruck. I've had it for almost a decade now. It has held up very well. Not extremely comfortable, but a decent cheap pack. It has basically zero pockets, just one massive pocket, and a smaller inner one.

If you're into a project, it would be a decent base I assume.
>>
>>34966930
It's not commercially available, I got it off a guy who got it off another guy who was in the 75th Ranger Regiment, which custom ordered these from Safariland for their M9's back in like 2011.

What pistol are you looking for a holster for?

I have a cheap air pad that's sorta a mix of the one you posted and an actual pad. Only takes up as much space as my basic Marmot sleeping bag, but that's still a good bit of volume that could be used for my percolator or extra shit. I will certainly get the pad you suggested because it's so compact or perhaps one that is a little more. For now I think I'll stick with the Swedish ruck and wait to buy the Recon. I could easily slap on some webbing on the frame and put on some big pouches. It'll make a fine over-night and day bag. Appreciate the advice.

consider using a stuff sack or a compression sack to keep your sleep system together, attached to the top of your pack so it's not bumping into your ass every step of the way of whatever trail you're on.

If in the future you move away from surplus, consider using a hiking/hunting focused pack instead. They'll likely be miles better than anything surplus. You should keep on the lookout for used packs since you're already going surplus imo.

They're a little bit bulky, but have benefits that may or may not outweigh that drawback. Very durable. Easy to fill and dump. Easy to pour in and out.

Aye lads, i have a couple of QTDDTOT and this seemed the right place for them

I have a russian 6b43 vest with the soft body armor in it, however i've been on the hunt for the corresponding hard plates for a long time and it seems like a lost cause at this point (only a couple of dealers selling the full set for like 800$), dimensions worry me a bit, the shoulder slope seems far steeper on russian plates and maybe theyre a bit thinner and a bit more curved. For both ergonomical (it's fucking HARD to find a good full body vest that doesn't rely entirely on velcro for closure, and I hate velcro) and autistical (I like muh russian set) reasons, I am going as far as I can to avoid deviating to other systems. So the questions are as follows:

Will it fit western hard plates?
What about the side plates? any hope?
and alternatively
Does anyone know where can i get me some legit russkie hard plates?

Also just for shits and giggles:
anyone else combine their autistic collector's/one specific county set and SHTF set in one? is this a good or bad idea? why? lemme know

I know for sure that ruski plates are like a 1cm taller and wider than 10x12 inches. If you have a 6b43, not a 45, then the plates are of about the same thickness as american ones too.

Also gorkaguy had a 6b45 with american plates, but he's rarely here.

>>

Them pants: Sporty and awesome on paper, but too crowded with little zippers everywhere, pockets that don't really fit anything and too tight fitting. Crye combats are much better.

The jackets have kinda retarded pocket layouts, the combat shirts seem good though. I think UF Pro is good for paramilitary /out/ists, but not really proper war stuff.

Too bad, I guess i should try to find a place where i could try them on if i ever want them.

I'll keep them in mind anyway because they are less than half the price of Crye and easy to find in flecktarn.
Mostly, i'm not found of paying more than 200 for pants so it's probably going to be these or the Fjällräven Keb.

I'll just grab some surplus pants until i'm mentally ready to spend more money on my gear.

>>34969618
>Too bad, I guess i should try to find a place where i could try them on if i ever want them.
Smart move, I would very much recommend you do this before buying, The first time I tried on a pair I was like WTF is this shit, super tight ass, extremely low waist and really just kinda uncomfortable. Cryes are just super comfy compared to UF Pro, and still pretty snug fitting.

But, to each his own. If it feels good and works then that´s all that matters.

Thanks m8s.

I've been wearing the same McRae hot weather boots (Panama sole) for the past 8 years since I nabbed them new for 15 burgerbucks. They're still holding up great for daily and innawoods wear. I'd like to get a spare pair for when these finally kick the bucket but for the price of a new or slightly used pair is around $120 and I'm see all kinds of other brands for that price. Should I just bbire the bullet or is there something better for the cost?

Also are Panama soles worth it? I have good experiences with them, but several people said to avoid them.

Enola Gaye, they're designed for airsoft but they're pretty much the best you can get for the price. Real smokes would obviously be better however you could buy ~12 EG smokes for the cost of 1 m18.

Depends on how many belt loops you have and how snugly you have everything cinched down. it's nice to be able to move pouch a bit so it's not digging into your side when you get into a vehicle or something. Not so nice if you wear skinny jeans with three belt loops that allow your pouches to slide all the way around to your asscrack as you move about.

Enola Gaye EG18Xs are decent for practicing with, but they're not durably built, and won't withstand inclement weather without some modifications. Their output also isn't as good as the real thing. Most EG18Xs are going to cost around $20-$25.

A real M18 will have better shelf life, stability against the elements, functionality with pin and spoon, plus output.

Interesting, last question. If you were to stick those on your rig, how many would stick on your rig? They seem like they run out pretty quick
>>
>>34971924
Well, that really depends on what you're doing/what you're using the smokes for. For example if you're larping on your own smokes are pretty useless, and if you have friends they can carry their own smokes, and even then you can carry extras in your pack or something if you want to.

Completely legal to buy, own, sell, and use as a civilian. New manufacture ones cannot be sold directly to civilians because of the fuses. All of the available M18s in the civilian market are NOS from the 60s, 70s, and 80s from back before the no civilian sales regs and when they used to still fall off of trucks. That is why they sell for $180 plus shipping on gunbroker.

>>34971875
>>34971885
>>34971902
You won't be finding any at surplus stores.

>>34971924
The airsoft ones are lame for actual SHTF squad level concealment purposes. A single M18 has about 3 times the output of even the largest Enola Gaye, EG18X.

I've got one M18 pouch currently, and plan to get a second.

You would need to carry six EG18xs to get the same concealment. They are about the size of a beer can.

Buy a couple M18s for prepping shtf, and then buy a few EG18Xs for actually practicing with.

All the morons on here seem to think that you actually use the M18s. No you retards, they're like carry ammo. You don't plink with them.

Those are more designed for having a highly visible signal that burns over a longer period of time. Smoke grenades are designed for essentially creating a wall of smoke quickly to obscure vision of movement or an area. The maritime ones probably could be used in the same way to great effect, but you'd have to get a little creative when using them because they're not designed with the same use in mind.

Question...

I've been looking at the condor CMR7 chest rig, the one that has a front buckle and is "split" into left side/right side.

Are there any non-condor brands that do the same thing?

I got my hands on one in a store and it's actually pretty damn slick, interfaces with a hydration pack and everything. I'm just a little wary of the condor meme, or is it like the glocknade meme?

I just want something light for shooting inna desert, if I'm hiking like ~1 mile to my shooting spot. So basically, light light duty.

>Rig up a detachable inline filter from a Sawyer Mini WFS, tubing from the popped bladder, and a CamelbaK® filter adapter
>Warrior Assault Systems large utility MOLLE pouch on the way to strap on to the webbing on the back to hold small items, but will use in my car if I don't like it

Do you guys recommend any other modifications or upgrades? What do you strap to the outside of your hydration pack?

I'm assuming that you are talking about going to political rallies when you talk about protecting yourself from bike lock attacks, so let me give my opinion. Get a construction helmet. They are like 20 USD and will stop shit like that because they actually have safety ratings despite being cheap. Many rallies and protests in the US and elsewhere have bans on helmets, or have police officers who will confiscate helmets just as they confiscate shields to keep the peace. This way, if the officers take your helmet, you won't have to go home and cry because the government snatched your 200 USD LARP helmet.

Grey Ghost Gear Griff Pack

Loving it so far, only had it for a week though so jury is out on longevity. Given the design and materials/stitching, I'd expect no problems.

More of an everyday/truck bag for me.

Get your rifle generally set up and practice with irons
Then grab a chicom rig as you buy plates and build up armor as you choose
Get optics and tertiary equipment

>>34986450
Best you can do is feel the corners and edges for any bends. Also hold to your ear and give it a shake, if you hear sand sliding around then its fucked up.

Also look for scuffs that indicate it was dropped sans carrier.

>>
>>34987183
What did you think that "feel the corners and edges for any bends" meant?
>>
>>34987200
Uhh nigga if you do the torque test by feeling up the corners for bends you ain't gonna find shit. The point is to actually apply some fucking force so you can hear or feel the cracked edges of a busted plate grating against each other. Just "feeling" isn't gonna cut it, you actually have to kinda try. Also tf kinda bends are you feeling a ceramic plate for? it's literally curved to start with, you're looking for cracks
>>
>>34987253
>hear or feel the cracked edges
>Just "feeling" isn't gonna cut it

>>
>>34982496
Metal helmets were never intended for protection against direct shots, though they can protect you against ricochet
>>
>>34987285
>Best you can do is feel the corners and edges for any bends.
>being at all similar to "grab opposite corners of the plate and torque/twist them opposite directions"

Faggot, why is it so hard for you to admit you're wrong? Your initial description doesn't describe the torque test at all and this isn't even an intelligent argument. Feeling the plate is a necessary condition but not a sufficient one. You actually have to apply force since with the plate being sealed the way it is, you won't even be able to feel major cracks if you don't torque it.
>>
>>34987343
>Feeling the plate is a necessary condition but not a sufficient one. You actually have to apply force
How do you feel a plate without force?

nvm i just reread your post and think i understand what you're trying to say. that is, what you're trying to say is so retarded i dismissed it out of hand and assumed you meant something more intelligent, but i can't see any other possibilities.

anyways if you're trying to say i should be able to see major cracks through the fucking nylon cover of a plate you should just neck yourself. what the fuck do you think the point of x-raying for cracks is if you could just see the fucking cracks through the cover?

Those 1.5lb side plates aren't even heavy enough to crack on their own weight dropped onto concrete from man height. Plus have you seen the gamut of surplus level IV ceramics that go through gun shows and surplus shops? There are ones that are beat to shit that are fine.

The whole ceramic durability thing is a fucking meme.

Mini-Maglights are pieces of shit because of their weak output and crappy socket.

I use small plastic Pelican flashlights and generic LED headlamps with rechargeable batteries. Having your hands free without having to hold a light in your mouth is insanely handy, and if you do have to bite on a light the plastic Pelicans are comfier. Bonus if working on electrical shit (like your truck/car/bike) is plastic lights don't short when dropped across electrical contacts.

These little shits work well and come with a charger and a car charger. I'm a mechanic and use my headlamps every day. Note that style battery box because light styles change but the box stays the same. I have two of these and two of their immediate ancestors. Will buy more to scatter around da shop and work trucks.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZCT8WC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cheap ain't everything. I also have four rechargeable Streamlight Stingers I love greatly.

Smoke
>>
Speaking of smoke, I finally found a decent use for the USGI dropleg panel I've had kicking about. I mounted a large riflemag pouch on it and it can now hold a couple of the Enola Gay smoke grenades. I can slip the panel on a belt optionally in like 2 seconds if I am in the mood to carry smokes or I can leave it out, and since the smokes weight nearly nothing it actually doesn't feel shitty to use a dropleg.

It's a hyrbid from High Threat Concealment. Business in the front, party in the back. After the front 1/3 that is 1.5" it extends to a more classic rigger's style 1.75" belt with hook lining the inside.

Comptac, or someone does also make a full leather with hook throughout the interior though.
