I have been tempted with the idea of making a 9mm AR starting out as an AR pistol then getting a stamp to put a legit stock on it.
I specifically want to use the Colt 32rd mags (not a big fan of how Glock mags look).
Is this a stupid/bad idea? It would really only be a range toy and home defense.
>>
Do whatever you want fool

They are fun and relatively inexpensive range toys

It would be my bus gun, actually.

Colt mag AR9s are sexy. Mine has had a few feed issues, so I wouldn't trust it with my life, but it's fun to shoot.
>>
I think you would be much better served by just doing like a 10.5 AR pistol in 5.56.

Your gonna have excellent reliability, larger round, and similar size package.

i went through this in my head for months before building my 5.56 (pistol)

AR9's are great. I prefer Glock mags though because they are literally the worlds best magazines and function WAY better than the Colt mags, but you can do what you want. I also EDC a G17 so having mag/round interchangeability is a big plus.

There fun as shit, especially with a suppressor

As long as you use a mag block, there's nothing stopping you from swapping uppers.
>>

Is the company Model 1 Sales good? I was considering buying the 9mm upper there and getting a standard AR 5.56 pistol. Just get a mag block later.
If Model 1 is shit, what about Rock River Arms? How hard is it to barrel the upper reciever, RRA has A2 9mm uppers w/o barrels.
>>
If you want something slightly different then look into .22WMR

>How hard is it to barrel the upper reciever
Not hard at all. Just put the barrel in and tighten down the barrel nut. Since its a blow back you dont even need to worry about fitting a gas tube. There are over 9000 videos on you tube showing how to install an ar barrel.

Dont forget to get a heavy buffer for the 9mm tho. And for what its worth, I've had better luck with the plastic magpul block over the metal ones.

You can use any stripped upper for a 9mm build. Choose one without a FA if possible because it doesn't do anything with the blowback bolt.

I used a NDS 604 upper for this build

Where can I find a 9mm AR barrel with a fixed front sight?
>>
>>34962187
PSA has some (out of stock ATM) or just install one your self.

Such is life of an arfag
>>
>>34959947
Im considering doing the same, hate the way the glockmags look. As somebody suggested I'm planning on getting a drop in mag insert so I all I have to do is switch bolts and upper. Along with a CMMG 22 conversion bolt and mag, you would have the ability to shoot the 3 most common rounds found in the US in a SHTF situation, all fitting comfortably in a rangebag
