Engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever.

I'm not against a simple (or even complex) engraving that individualizes the weapon, something to distinguish it from the million identical copies without spoiling the inherent elegance. Maybe a sentence, maybe a logo or a dedication (especially if it's a gift for a veteran.) Maybe a naked chick if this is the kind of thing you like on the gun.

But covering the thing whole in whirls, flowers or other such crap... nope.

Guns are made in thousands of pieces, so engraved/decorate guns are a thing for people who want pieces to look at instead of shooting with. Usually people who buy engraved guns are wealthy so have other guns to shoot and some to be the safe queens.
At least these still are working guns, so it's fully ok for me.

It is like jewellery but with a functional aspect.
