Why can yo tell me about black powder cannons, can it be a viable home defense or a deterrent to keep trespassers at bay? What would be most effective ammunition to use with it? Could I use it against cars or even lightly armored vehicles? What do I need to know about cannons to use one effectively?

Most of the time you'll only need to use canister rather than shells or roundshot.
Unless you've got something like a 20lb parrott or armstrong firing hardened projectiles you won't be able to defeat anything that's got armour rated for better than stopping .50 cal.

Have you been within maybe 100 yards of a cannon like that going off before? I know this is bait, but I'm sure it would shatter all your windows and your eardrums. The concussive wave might just kill you as well. That's assuming indoors. If you have it in your yard or something, it's be baller as hell, but I couldn't see any actual way it could be useful.
