If you can get a solid Pre B CZ-75 for 250, by all means get it. They are superb.

I have yet to wear mine out, and I've had it since the 80's. The bluing is fucking gone, but it still shoots like new.

I mean...you could just be careful not to drop your gun on the hammer. I wouldn't turn down a great deal on an otherwise great gun because of a totally avoidable design flaw.

A decent condition CZ-75 Pre-B for $250 is a steal.
In fact, any CZ-75 for $250 is something I'd jump on unless it was a gunsmith special.
Classic steel frame CZs are great shooters and point well. They're a bit outdated nowadays for use as a duty or CCW gun unless you're really into steel frames, but they make great range queens and bedside guns.
I'm probably committing a crime on /k/ to say it, but I prefer Tanfoglio's CZ clone designs over CZ's originals - the designs diverged at the CZ-75 Pre-B, and Tanfoglio went off in their own direction. Most notably, the firing pin block design in the Tanfoglio is superior to the CZ-75's, and they tend to have better trigger pulls as a result.

If you want to buy new and inexpensively:
My top suggestion is the steel frame EAA Tanfoglio Witness, which you can get new for $305 shipped right now. An absolute steal. DA/SA that cocks and locks. The poly frame is $260, but price aside, I don't see any reason to prefer it - it weighs the same.
Poly frame CZ P-07 is $400, if you want something more duty-style with a decocker, it can swap to to the included safety for cock and lock as well.
I don't have personal experience with them, but I hear the Turkish Tristar clones are very good.
And of course, any good value you can find used - TZ-75s, CZ-75s, Witnesses, FAB-92s, Jerichos all pop up often at low prices. More modern P-01s/SP-01s tend to be almost as expensive as they are new.

The surplus CZs are a good buy, I bought one of the $200 F grade ones from Buds a while ago to steal it's rear sight for another CZ (was a short rail and had the rear sight replaced with an adjustable one).

Painted it up and it shoots pretty gud

OP here, not interested in a rifle for home defense. I've barely got enough room for the rifles I currently own as is. A pistol is simple the more economical choice. Plus 9mm hollowpoint will kill anything I'd need to kill, why bother with 5.56.

CZfags I bought a used somewhat new 75b with a fucked up finish due to holster wear, is it possible to just blast the old polycoat or whatever they used off? Can I blue it instead? Or should I just not fuck with the finish?
